Does a LSP left untouched "degrade" over time?

Not sure how to phrase the title on this one....

Gave my car 3 coats of UPP before garaging it for the winter. To my surprise, the car is barely even dusty when I rolled it out a few days back.

Now is that UPP still protecting almost as well as it was after I put it on... or has time reduced it's effectiveness, despite not really being exposed to the elements or washed?

I wouldn't think a sheltered vehicle would lose much protection over a couple of months. The elements are what really break down a LSP.

Thanks for the input. I'm still getting the "wet look" on my A4 so I'll let it be for now... will save the claying, PCing and LSPing for another weekend. :)

Since you put 3 coats on i would think it is still protected. However you will loose some protection over time. There are still elemets and changes in the garage which will effect the durability.

would i worry about it? no, its prob. very minial but i would think there wouldbe some

If I get a chance, will either pop on a fresh coat or at least use the the UGE I have to boost it a bit.

Just curious as to how you came to that conclusion and what it is that you think will cause the loss of durability / degradation of the LSP. I have my own ideas about this subject, but I am curious.

experience. I take care of a few cars that are garaged in the winter.. The door is basically closed in September and not opened till its warm.

all the cars have covers and go in protected and beading/sheeting well.

When they come out the wax doesn't work nearly as well. Theres little shine, there is little to no beading and there is little sheeting.

Perhaps it may be the wax instead of a sealant, or maybe its just Calgary but i have noticed this from personal experience

I think exposure to air/ozone does play a part in this, and I would think that the effects would be evidenced more in a wax than a sealant. This is just my assumption...

I agree... here's a pic right after I rinsed the car after washing it yesterday. 3x UPP 6 months ago... still giving a nice bead.

And right after I "flood rinsed" it with a nice sheet of water, still pretty slick... barely any towel needed.

It doesn't seem like the "claying, PCing and LSPing" should be necessary if the vehicle hasn't been exposed to the elements.
Personal opinion, but as easy as UPP is to use, I would probably "pop on a fresh coat" just to keep things fresh.

From looking at the pictures, it doesn't appear to really need anything. :)

Winter before last when I stored my show car I put on a fresh coat of PS and when I got it out in the spring it looked dull so I redone it before going to a show.
Last June I put DG 105 on it drove to several shows and when I stored it for the winter I just put it in the garage.
This spring when I got it out after removing the cover I went over it with DG FC&S to remove the dust and drove it to a show.
Must not have lost much gloss because I won.
My conclusion is wax will deteriorate while sitting in a garage. A quality sealant will last for two or three years while in storage.
