Do you wear Ear Protection when using the PC 7424?

I'm going to be buying a PC in about a week or so and I'm wondering how loud it is. Do you all wear ear plugs when using yours?

I saw a couple of videos of the PC in use last night and it sounds pretty loud to me. I said" "IT SOUNDS PRETTY LOUD TO ME!!!" ;) :buffing:

Nah, when you are using it it's not really that bad. When using a firmer pad at a higher speed, it is a bit louder, but on finishing pads it's reasonable. What is annoying though is the vibration, but it is greatly reduced when you take the side handle thing off.

I usually play my mp3 player via headphones.

I would recommend some eye protection though....never know what'll come flying up.

Yeah I always wear an iPod during buffing, not cause im worried about wrecking my hearing but just because the sound of the buffer gets annoying after long enough. The sound of my 9227 running has nothing on Jimmy Buffett :).

noise cancelling headphones probably won't have any effect on that sound. if you want you could get some earplug/phones that will connect directly to your ipod or music source that will both block out the sound and play music (at a reasonable level so you're not trying to drown out the pc noise with louder music). the etymotics brand is pretty popular in that category, but not cheap.

when using the PC. My other hobby is woodworking and I'm always wearing some sort of ear protection. Remember, the best kind of ear protection is the one that's actually used! You've only got one set of ears so treat 'em right.

I *should* wear earplugs... I dunno how a PC is compared to rotary though since I've never used one. I like to hear how hard the motor is working on the paint though...

I use ear protection...not because its too loud, but I found that the continuous noise started to effect my middle ear. As a result I felt nausea and dizziness.

You really should wear earplugs while working with a PC b/c at speed 6 the PC is most definately above 85 decibals which can cause permenant damage.

I have earplugs that I use when I am vaccuming and extracting. I wear them when I am buffing andf polishing too, but I also have my stereo in the garage cranked with tunes...

:LOLOL

Wearing headphones and having to turn them up loud enough to hear over the PC is going to cause FAR more damage to your ears than just listening to the PC noise. There are studies starting to emerge that the iPOD craze (yes, yes, I know it's not just the iPOD's fault) is resulting in hearing loss even when listened to at moderate levels.
