Do you use the entire clay bar or cut in half?

Just wondering if some of you use an entire clay bar when claying a vehicle or do you cut in in half? I just purchased a new Megs Professional Overspray Clay because my other one was getting too ratty even though I only used it 3 times. Thanks,,,,,AR

I have mine cut into fours.



As long as you're using a fresh surface of the clay and constantly kneeding it to expose the clean surfaces then you'll be fine...

I like to cut it in half. Mostly for safety purposes incase I drop it. But I still feel that I have plenty of clay in my hand with half the bar (once the clay flattens out a bit).

I cut mine into thirds, I have big hands and that fits my hand better.

I took a tip from BradB and cut the bar into many pieces. I take the clay, knead it out until its about 1/4" thick, and then cut the bar into as many silver dollar-sized pieces as I can get (6-8 usually). Then I just use the coin-sized piece until it picks up visible dirt/grime, then flip it over. Once I've used both sides I toss it out. Works great and I get good mileage out of one bar. And add to that the fact that you don't have to worry about kneading the clay (and the risks inherent in it), and its a great method.

I dropped the first clay bar I ever used and had to buy a new one so I like to break them into at least 4 pieces.

The odds arent worth the effort for me.. I've dropped clay maybe once out of about 20 clay sessions i've had since I started detailing.

I never knead at all. Just don't want to take the chance of ever seeing that piece of debris come back to haunt me!

I use the whole bar. I think I'll start cutting them into two pieces though since the flattened bar gets too big for my hand.

I knead it very often and occasionally cut it in pieces and get out the rolling pin.

Clay bars are $30 in australia so I want them to last long.



I shape it to the length and width of my palm and make it very thin. Then slap it hard onto my damp hand and therefore no chance of dropping it and can do the job faster

I cut it into quarters, make a large 'coin' and use on fingertips. Use one side, then the other then fold in half and re-coin. I find that If I start with dry hands and only apply the lube to the paint surface, that it actually sticks to my fingers slightly and chances of dropping it are minimal.
