If you buy car soap and other detailing chemicals in gallon sizes and use a hand pump dispenser like this one:



You’re probably familiar with how much of leaky nuance the pump can be while not in use. However, some of you may not be aware that a 3/8 screw protector acts as the perfect cap to stop unwanted drip, leaks, and otherwise unwelcome spillage:



Available at most hardware stores for less than $1, they often come in a 2-pack, as displayed in the following photo taken at my local Home Depot:

I can’t take any credit for discovering this quick fix, that honor goes to another… I don’t recall who. Maybe it was you? Regardless, an official post on this simple hack is long overdue. No more leaky Honeydew!! :yay

I remember that other post. I think he actually put a little hole at the end of the rubber nub and he could pump right through that and it wouldn't leak out because the hole was small enough that it kinda self-sealed itself. That probably only works for liquids though, not thick soaps. I've never had a problem with my soap pumps leaking since it's so thick, but the liquids I have to shake off pretty good. I keep mine in a plastic tub with a towel underneath to catch any temporary leakage after some pumpage.

Do you find yourself making another mess when you pull off the nub and any liquid that might have dripped in there flying across the room?

I stopped using my pumps but my idea was kind of like yours, but to use one of those boot trays to catch the drips. I did buy a couple cheap trays at Wal-Mart (after getting one at BBB for mucho $!), maybe next bottle of shampoo I open I'll put a pump in.

Can't say I've had the nub shoot off from excess build up. Generally there's only a little green drip at the end.

I only get drips from the dispenser on my 5 gallon bucket, but yeah...that's a good idea and better than my current catch-jug w/funnel. Heh heh, seems mighty obvious once somebody else thinks of it!
 
Props to Swanicyouth for suggesting over on AGO you can also 5/16 rubber vacuum caps for plugging up either triangle shaped hand pumps or the round style pictured above. Available from most auto part store a 4 pack retails for ~$2.49.

I used to have the triangle kind of hand pump dispenser, it works just as well as the round style, but breaks when your foam cannon accidentally crashes down on-top of it:



 Ooops! :yikes:
 
Angus- Heh heh, and they *all* break if you get too carelessly heavy-handed with them!

Heh heh#2, might've known that Swanicyouth had this idea, he's one sharp tool in the shed that guy.
