Do You Smoke?

i don't care for smoking (all sorts) as well, though alot of my friends do it. what makes me dislike it even more, is when you're driving and some moron flicks his cigarette butt out the window (i can't stand littering as well!) or anywhere else for that matter...

As far as the ban at restaurants, I'm more than happy they did it. Just because someone likes to smoke, doesn't mean it should affect *my* life and my loved ones who don't smoke. Second hand smoke is just as bad, if not worse! Unless you're gonna start paying for my healthcare, others personal habbits shouldn't negatively affect my health! While I may agree also about the government stepping in on a buisness owners' rights, I think in this case it's perfectly fine to help clean the air of known carcinogens. /rant

Again the libertarian in me would say if someone does not like the smell of smoke, they don't have to visit a bar or restaurant where the owner has decided to allow it in HIS/HER property, go somewhere else or eat at home.

On the flip side, I do like the smoking ban because it discourages people from smoking. Now you may say, if you are a libertarian, why do you care if someone smokes or not. On the surface, I don't. However, their habit costs me money in the form of higher insurance rates and taxes (Medicare and Medicaid). Due to that, they are infringing on my rates by hitting my wallet. So, despite my libertarian leanings, anything that makes smoking less desirable (bans, additional taxes on cigarettes, etc.) is fine by me.

I used to smoke cigs on and off in high school and college...now I wouldn't think of smoking them again.

I do smoke cigars, have about 1,000 or so in my collection and average about 2-3 a week. A good meal followed by a good beer, scotch or port and a nice cigar and I'm in heaven.

No smoke for me either. I can't wait until Michigan gets into this century and bans smoking in all restaurants. A lot of places are going to smoke free on their own around here though.

A lot of good responses, guys. It looks like most of the people on this board drink, but not smoke, thats weird - I thought they went hand-and-hand in most cases. :nixweiss

About the ban, we've recently had a smoking ban take place, and it hasn't really affected me that much. In my local restaurants they have a smoking and non-smoking section. I always pick non-smoking (for obvious reasons) and I don't smell like smoke after I leave. Then again I live in a MAJOR city, so our restaurants are pretty big.

Another "pet peeve" of mine is littering, just like that one guy mentioned. It's just disgusting, why can't someone take the extra 1/3 seconds to just use a waste receptical or just save their trash for later (house or something). I see people throw cigarettes out their windows and it just kills me to see it. Well, the firework show is pretty cool, but after it hits the ground it's gross. Do you guys ever drive down the road and see the side COVERED in cigarette buts? GROSS!

I'm not trying to attack any smokers or anything like that, it's your body and your choice.

Not every smoker litters and is disrespectful in their habit.

G35stilez: I'm not doing a report on reefer, lol. :rofl

Just kidding, but, seriously, I don't even really know what I'm asking all these questions, just wondering, I guess. Everyone on this board seems mature enough to carry on a healthy conversation while staying on subject. Other boards I post on couldn't handle topics like this, but this one can so, it's a good place to post it, lol. :xyxthumbs

I have been a cigarette smoker for 12 years. I work in a bar as a dj, so I drink a good amount every Thurs & Friday night too. Because I still work in the service industry is the real reason I smoke. Now I can go through 1 pack of smokes Sunday through Wednesday, and maybe have a few left., but I always buy a pack to smoke while im working. Sometimes I hand a few out, but most of the time I find myself lighting them, working, talking, then they are halfway gone by the time im ready for my next drag.

Me personally, I greatly enjoy a cold beer and menthol smoke .. but

I cannot wait until Jan 1 when we can no longer smoke in our bars & restaurants as well.

I think it will help me stop smoking..
