Do you seperate your Microfibers??

I know that you are supposed to wash your microfibers seperately from everything else, but do you also seperate them according to where they are used on the car or do you just do one big load?

I am just weary about washing the microfibers that have been used strictly on the body of the car with those that have been used on door jambs, wheels, and under the hood, as they seem to be hold quite a bit of dirt.

I have three groups of MFs.

Winter car washing MFs - used only for that purpose since bought new (WalMart MFs)

Detailing MFs - used only for that purpose since bought new (ExcelDetail MFs)

Grunge work MFs (WalMart MFs)

Each of these groups get washed separately. The winter washing MFs are washed by hand in a couple buckets with Woolite / warm water after each use.

The Excel MFs are washed in the machine with Woolite, and the WalMart grunge-work MFs are washed in the machine with regular laundry detergent.

I wash several different loads as well

general purpose towels (coscto)

paint only (several reputable vendors)

Wheel only MF

Three different loads for me.

Good MF used on paint and interior.

MF used for wheels, door and trunk jambs, under hood.

MF used for windows and drying (waffle weave).

All my mf's go in together if they're not too dirty... but if I have a batch of my old mf's that get filthy, then they get a soak first and then go in the machine seperately.

All go together dirty or not. A little liquid soad and a scoop of Oxyclean and they come out clean as new.

I'm always careful about washing glass mfs by themselves so there's no chance of polish and wax residue from others redepositing on them.

You know, I used to separate, but now I chuck em' all in together with hot water, Tide Free, a cup of Simple Green, vinegar in the fabric softner cup. An extra rinse, tumble dry on low and they're golden.

If certain MF's are gross, I do them separate.

I only keep WW's separate. I dont use detergent for them, just water since they only dry the car.

I have to wash them seperatly. My general MF sometimes get full or junk that will not come out in a regular wash.

I will soak the filthy ones overnight and then wash them all at once. I will add some vinegar and use the extra rinse. I havent notice any difference in seperating them or washing them toghether.

How much vinegar are you guys using in the softner?

No matter the size of the load, I fill the softener cup/dispenser. I've seen the suggestion of a teaspoon (or was it a tablespoon?) per towel. I don't see the need for an exact mesurement.

I just happen to being doing towels today. :) I wash all of my MF towels together. If a towel is particularly dirty I may either pre-rinse or pre-treat with APC. After washing I inspect my towels and if any (new) stains remain I re-treat with APC and re-wash.

I have added some huck/surgical towels to my arsenal for window work. I did wash them in their own separate load initially. I washed a couple of those towels with my MFs today.

As far as separating my glass towels, I hadn't really considered it. As far as polish/wax, etc. "redepositing" on your glass towels, IMO either you are getting your towels clean or you aren't. :nixweiss

This is probably true. If you happen to start getting stubborn smudging all of the sudden while using the glass mfs you can always go back to washing them in their own seperate load.

Bill D, After following this same regimen for several years now without a problem I'm guessing I'm pretty safe :) My routine "may" have been upgraded (emphasis on may) over the last year with the addition of Charlie's Soap and/or Micro-Restore as my washing agents.

Similar here, mine's Mela-Power. Never had the need to use a Micro-Restore type product.

Trying not to wander too far afield :), but I'm not familiar with Mela-Power. Is this a regional product?

As far as the "need" to use Micro-Restore, or any similar product. I probably don't have a need for cleaning power or even a microfiber specific product. If I understand the marketing, both Charlie's Soap and Micro-Restore are supposedly "clean rinsing" products. I also like the idea that you only use 1/2 - 1 ounce of soap per wash load. I have used a "similar" product (at least in regards to amount of soap used) called Bi-O-Kleen. It's priced similarly to Charlie's Soap.

Anybody got any suggestions on washing sheepskin mitts? I let mine soak for awhile then washed it with wool-lite but it's still got some pretty big black spots on it? Thanks.
