Do you remember your first?

First thing I actually detailed was my bike. I had an all chrome Redline RL-20B (some of you guys who grew up in the 80's may remember the pimp factor). I used TW chrome polish and windex--I polished every spoke. I always kept my bikes clean, washing them after each ride. I also use to keep my matchbox cars clean, but that is another story.

The car that I remember was my mom's malibu station wagon. I used a TW product called "color back." The solvent smell almost made me faint.

In 87 my dad bought a new civic, I moved up and started using Meguiars cleaner wax. :D

I had a redline too. Honestly I had no clue, I would armor all everything including chrome. Did the whole spoke thing too.

First car I properly took care of was my Honda Accord Coupe - a 1996 2.0LS Automatic, facelift version. Cracking car. Day after I bought it I went straight down to halfords and spent about £80 buying their entire 'own-brand' cleaning range.... Well, we all start somewhere! :doh

Come a long way since - All my Galants have been treated with a absurd amount of care and affection according to my wife:D and I now feel that I've got enough appreciation and a a sufficient amount knowledge (though still very much learning, don't think that will stop!) to purchase a 'professional' set of tools and products and make good use of them. :xyxthumbs

Probably around 2002, on my mom's (it's mine now) 1997 GTP. It was black and she had totally trashed it, I remember spending 6 or 7 hours, washing it with a sponge and Mother's soap, then I polished it by hand with Nu Finish and some crappy rags, before using a Craftsman buffer and Mother's Liquid Carnuba on it. Also I used the whole bottle, heh I think that's why it took me so long.

First real professonal quality detail was in 2005, when I got a PC, clayed and went over it with SSR2.5 and SSR1, topped with NXT. I spent forever on that, probably like 8 hours doing what I could do in an hour and a half now with a rotary and Menzerna. She looked amazing though, it was a great feeling pulling into school the next day and having everyone stare at pure marring-free black in the middle of the winter. I'm still improving though, and sadly the car still has some reminders of it's pre-Autopian days that just won't come out without removing too much clearcoat. I'll be happy when I can get a new car and care for it right since day 1 (hoping for a 2005 GTO). Buying the PC was what really spurred me to get into professional detailing.

My first pro detail was a 2001 Audi A8 that had been keyed, was covered in marring, rims had baked in brake dust, had pine tar all over the back seats, and the owner's son was asthmatic so I couldn't use any harsh chemicals on the interior. That was an adventure :). It came out well though, and the owner was impressed. Since then I've probably done 60 full details not including freebies and my own car.
