Do you Drink?

I don't see any pluses to alcohol. All that you drink it for is just so you can have a "good time" for the time that you're drunk. IMO, theres far too many downsides to a "good time" for 5-6 hours.

+: temporary fix, good time

-: money, health, risk of injury/death to you and/or others, risk of acting stupid in front of everyone, breaking the law (in some cases)

I think you may be automatically associating alcoholic beverages with "getting drunk", while for a lot of people that simply isn't the case.

I drink with all my dinners out. I usually eat out 2 to 3 times a week. My father is a HUGE wine enthusiast and I get to enjoy many awesome wines with my meals from his collection. We often go to wine pairing dinners where the owner of a winery comes to the restaurant and you get 5 glasses of wine that are complimented by 1 mini appetizer, 3 mini main courses and 1 mini dessert. They describe each wine and you can ask questions. It is a lot of fun and the food is gourmet phenomenal. It is a real social gathering and you get to meet a lot of new people. Nothing like a few drinks to break the ice and get the good vibes flowing!

With many of the BYOB restaurants, I bring a bottle of wine and a little bottle of Vodka and Roses Lime Juice. I like a cocktail (Vodka Gimlet) prior and accompanying my appetizer and then wine with my main course.

I also drink socially with friends and co-workers at bars. I drink Vodka Gimlets then.

I drink plain Stolichnaya Vodka. I've tried all of them as well as the flavored ones which I don't like too much. But there are a couple smaller brands that are good, one actually made with Meyer Lemons which is real nice.

But in college, forget it, I was mainlining beer and shots like no tomorrow! Those days ended a few years after college when I couldn't handle getting up for work after drinking all night. That was the fun of working in NY City; the night life. But it caught up to me real fast.

Never drank and never plan too. Dont really see a use in it. Im happy with the way I feel when Im sober.

Some people take pride in drinking, dont really know why. Girls seem to think it makes them look cool but anytime I see a girl with a beer its a big turn off.

I don't drink to much any more now that I have a kid, but years ago before I had a kid I would go out almost every night with different friends and party it up. I was blowing $500+ a week. I was getting very rowdy and out of control in the end and some of my friends were getting nervous hanging out with me. I then realized it was not funny anymore and needed to stop. My body was starting to ache and I starting getting really bad acid reflux and could hardly breathe the next day. After I had a kid I stopped and kept myself busy with other things. I will still go out and have a couple but nothing like before ever again. I just think about the money I spent and it makes me mad.

I did have a lot of fun though!

Im not here to start a fight with anyone. I just want people to know the TRUTH.

But... but... what makes it true? There is no proof, none whatsoever.

I'm not saying you're wrong to not want to drink alcohol; I think that is a fine choice. But to use the bible as truth, well, I'd like to remind you that it isn't true for everyone. The bible says to keep slaves, etc. It seems that the bible's truth is selective.

+1, i don't need it to have fun so i just dont see any to start, i only see downsides to it, no pluses

water, on the other hand i drink at least 70oz per day :spit:

Like a few others on here I enjoy a couple of beers now and then. Like a few other people have said the mass produced beers suck. But that is just my opinion. There are certain foods that go well with certain beers. There are some great locally brewed beers in just about every state. Here on Long Island we have a few. Blue Point Brewing has some good beers. Another one Brooklyn Brewery has been around for awhile and is sold in more places.

Like someone else said a lot of people associate drinking with getting drunk. Unfortunately, I think some people are genetically pre-disposed to have an addictive personality. Another big thing here in the US was the drinking age being raised from 18 to 21. Probably one of the best way to make teenagers want something is to make it illegal. That is why I think you see more binge drinking in colleges these days. For most people when you hit 21 the novelty of drinking has worn off. When you think about the fact that you can enlist in the armed services at 18 and take a bullet for your country but you can't have a beer is nuts!

Also, if you look at other Western industrialized countries they introduce alcohol at a younger age. It may be watered down wine or low alcohol beer (McD's in Germany). By making it a part of society and not making it taboo kids grow up with a healthy association and respect for alcohol.

I'm 23 and don't drink.

It's just not my thing. I'm really not a fan of the taste of alcohol; nor do I like the idea of getting drunk that I'm miserable for the next following day. I also have problems with my stomach being extra sensitive and alcohol doesn't help.

I'm usually the minority when we go out (i.e. no drink in my hand), but I really don't mind. It's also saved me a decent amount of $ but thats not the reason why I don't.

Does anyone know if it is safe to take such medicine like Prilosec OTC before drinking to minimize the pain drinking may cause me? I will be flying down to Myrtle Beach to celebrate my 21st birthday and really don't feel like being sick the whole time because of my acid reflux.

I enjoy a good brew quite often. It is certainly an aquired taste, much like drinking wine. I love beer, but can't stand most wines. I think you need to develop your taste palate before dismissing it all together. Once you realize that fresh draft tastes nothing like a sour bottled brew, you will be hooked, I guarantee it!

I wouldn't call most macro beer (Bud, Coors, Miller, etc) real beer anyway as it lacks any complexities, even tho I love and regularly drink Miller. Real beers are a craft/art, much like waxes or any of the finer things in life. They are made with complex flavors, ingredients, and processes that that macro stuff just can't touch.

I love draft beer as well. In face we just got back from Applebees and I had a nice cold leines honeyweiss.

I dont care for wine that much either and I have drank a large volume of them and a very diverse selection.

:nixweiss If he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it. I tried smoking once when I was 10 and nearly puked. Never tried it again, never will. Doesn't make me an expert on smoking but so what? Look at all the money I've saved in the 36 years since! :chuckle:

But look at all the money you have spent on Asian call girls.

I don't know if it's safe or not, but it takes up to 4 days to work, so plan accordingly.

I took a final in college once absolutely still bombed from the night before. I woke up at some chicks house at 730am and she lived near campus so I walked rather stumbled to the test. Everyone one just stared at me and the prof asked if I was ok. I still managed a B somehow but wow that was a messed up night.

BYOB restaurants eh? I dont know if I have ever been to one of those. Do they charge you a cork fee?

Ive been up in Northern MN at the little towny white trash bars where they do set ups.

Hahahah no kidding man. We drank probably 5 nights a week in college. The best times I will never remember!

Pfft, I drank 10 days a week in college.

College + Kegs + (Girls+Kegs) * Parties = :getdown

I prefer a strong IPA (NewHolland MadHatter, Crooked Tree), Quality Tequila (Patron, Corazon, Don Julio), and a nice Bourbon/Whiskey (Makers Mark, Knob Creek).
