Do They Detail F1 And Lemans Cars

I was watching a pre rcorded race at the glen (american lemans series) and was wondering if after a race if they detail the cars? They are always full of tar and bugs after, and most of the cars are CF. So theres my question of the day.
 
Im currently interning with Audi in their main factory in Germany so ive seen the three winning cars from Le Mans a couple of times at events we have had and they have not be touched since the race, they are all covered in dirt. We have one in our museum (2 models old, the R8) and that one also has the race dirt on it. Not sure why but thats how they do it at Audi, maybe its only winning cars at big races but thats all i know
 
I guess you could call it 'detailing' but those cars are stripped down to component level after each race and rebuilt...

they are spotless, visually and mechanically...



watch a race on TV, they are always cleaning, wiping down, etc., those cars...

just saw a Lemans R8 Tdi today at a show, vry clean...the paint and so forth is dinged up from debris, but the car is spotless



sometimes when they 'retire' a car they will leave it as is for effect, ie, rubber streaks, bugs, etc.
 
I agree creambun, there does seem to be a lot of bias towards Ferrari these days. There are a lot of people saying that Mclaren are poor losers because they plan to appeal, but if the shoe was on the other foot dont you think Ferrari would appeal, Im sure that Max Mosely would be a lot more voiciferous too. That man is supposed to be impartial but he has personally attacked Ron Dennis a number of times this season.



And what was with the delegate monitoring the Mclaren garage at Brazil, how come one wasn't placed in Ferrari's garage during the Schumacher era to ensure fair play.



But having said all that I hope that the result does stand, as Kimi has driven well this season after a poor start and a few reliability problems. In the end the best driver won as he had the most wins.



I just hope that the governing body takes a good look at themselves this season, put the rules in black and white, stick to them and not bend them for any infringement, no matter which team it involves.
 
I don't know they do it anymore but it used to be common in F1 and some other race series to have a concours as part of the pre-race hoopla.
