Do Sealents and Carnauba look the same

[quote name='Scottwax']. I also find the difference is more noticable when looking at the paint from an angle.

could you go into more detail? I notice this with my black truck and just want to see if you see the same thing I see, or if its just me.

Wax= Grease that is in the form of wax and added oils plus 50% solvent.

Zaino and other sealants= Apx 90% polymer suspended in an oil, water, or acrylic base and either 10% solvent or hardners.

It takes the extra solvents to dry the wax because in a paste due to the consistany of paste waxes, it is glorified chapstick and old technology that many of us (me included) have a hard time getting away from because of nostalia purposes. I will say when I run out of my stock of waxes I will stick with Z2Pro because it is as wet and deep as any wax. The new modern sealants no matter which you chose blow away the old stale looking sealants and the sillicone based sealants of the 1980's. Most modern sealants that contain some sillicone like all of meguirs stuff is not the harmful type of sillicones that used to give body shops fits back in the day. The proof is in the pictures around here any many sealant only details have won hands down in the extreme detailing contest and those cars look as deep and wet as you can get.

Most sealants have way better durabilty and attrack way less dust and grime that can get baked into paste waxes. They are usually easier to use and buff off also (never stain any trim), although some waxes like Natty's and S100 are pretty easy to use too. Too many wax companies have fallen in love with themselves and they charge 50 some bucks plus for these waxes and to me that's a joke, if you do go for a wax I would stick with Natty's, S100 or Pink (a little harder to buff) because it gives the same finish for 15 bucks. I would bet my left umm arm that if I detailed a car using many of the expenses waxes and something like Natty's you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

BQ, I'd bet that most of us couldn't tell the difference between Natty's and Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, myself included.

It's not that we're not skilled or don't have a critical eye, it's the nature of comparative testing. The phenomenon has been demonstrated repeatedly with audio equipment, wines, and many other pleasures that have multiple styles and manifestations with different but equally satisfactory solutions. It's not to say that they aren't different, and not to say that we can't sense the differences, but more that the nature of the testing combined with human psychology and physiology obscures the difference.

I can tell the difference between tube audio and transistor audio when I'm not trying to find it, but put the two in a double blind a/b and give me the switch and I'll be hard pressed. I can Natty's my car and obviously see the waxy characteristics over perhaps NXT, but if you brought your car to me and asked me what I used on it, I'd be hella danged if I could say anything other than "I don't know, but it looks great!" I did my red Miata one side #16 and the other #26, and most people couldn't tell the difference. I could, but it vanished when I TRIED to see it.

The paint just has a deep liquid look when you aren't looking at the paint mostly head on. Almost like it glows. I didn't see it with UPP, EX-P or Acrylic Jett on my own black car. Now if you are looking head on into the paint, the difference isn't as apparent. I think it is the oils in the carnaubas that slightly distort how the light hits the paint that gives it that look. Whatever it is, I like it. :)

On a black car i don't know if I could tell the difference, but I had an interesting experience when I frist got Zaino. Maybe I did not prep the paint properly, but when I put on the Z5, the black BMW paint almost looked brownish at angles. Almost like a brownish hue on the car (this car was about 6 months old and garaged).

Don't get me wrong, you would have to be at a certain angle and really look for it, but I could see it. I tried Souveraen and that thing was just great. Pure black and deep.

On my silver car and especially on my GF's champagne infinti the Zaino looks absolutly amazing and I am only going to be using zaino from now on. The lines, like the bumper edges, just seem to be very sharp and "out", very very defined.

On the black BMW (Souverean) it looked more like the car was one, smooth flowing from one piece to the other.

I hope I can make a test next week, where I will prep my motorcycle paint (black) with Zaino and S100 and post it for comparison.

what I "see" is that on my black truck #21 looks just as deep and wet head on, but when you look down the body the sealant has a grayish look to it. I love the look of #21 , but the grayish look at an angle is the only con. do you run into that?

I see more of a 'silvery' look that you may interpret as grayish. :nixweiss Klasse SG has that look more than any other sealant I have used. You may want to try Poorboy's EX w/carnauba and see if it is more to your liking.
