Hopefully true to the mindset of those that visit here i bought a new set of rims/tires today, and brought them home and promptly applied 2 coats of mother's carnuaba wax to them! I'll treat the rubber with 303 when i put them on tomarrow.

qualify? :bounce ;)

here is what is going on the eclipse.

TenzoR Sinko 17x7 in gunmetal with Hankook Ventus HR II H405 in 225/45/17 [shown is the 4 lug pattern, i use the 5 lug pattern]

Good Choice on rims/tires/detailing supplies.

However, not to knock you, but I have had great success using Klasse on my rims. It really keeps the dust to a minimum and guards better (IMO) against the elements, not to mention the amazing shine ir produces. Just a suggestion...But the 303 will look great on the low-pro tires.

Be sure to post pics when they're on!

"the carnauba may not last long, maybe try Meg's #20 if you don't have Klasse"

Sure he has class, he's an Autopian isn't he ! :xyxthumbs

When I got my chromes I put about 10 coats of Zaino on them before they got out of the house ;)

i know the consensus here is to put a syn wax on rims for the very reasons mentioned above...but i didnt have any. and honestly i still dont know which syn wax i want to try in general. so thats mainly the reason i threw the mother's on.

wow, 10 coats!!!!! they look awesume though!

cheers,

Arrrgh! Can't wait.... till.... spring.... must get.... 17's...... ggggggghh. :wall :bounce

Seriously though, all these flagrant displays of aftermarket wheels has me chomping at the bit! I've got a set of 235/45 tires all wrapped up with nowhere to go.

Congrats on your new purchase, and let us know how you like those Hankooks. I'm always curious about lesser known tires. :)

this will be the 3rd set that i have run or have sold to to a friend. and with 6000 miles (1 roadtrip and regular commuting) i have to say that i have been quite impressed with the hankook brand. i get them *almost* at wholesale as well, so that helps a lot too. but they have preformed very well indeed.

we all know about Bridgestone (god-like tires), Goodyear (overpriced), Michelin (wicked too expensive) and so i have been running the lesser known tires just to see how they compare. For the average non-auto-x i would higly reccommend this brand (especially the K102)

they go on my car tomarrow afternoon when i secure my hub-centric rings....wooo hoo (-:

Synthetic waxes will last much longer and are more durable than any carnauba due to carnaubas low resistance to heat and high evaporation tendencies. After a few heat cycles and a couple weeks on your wheels the carnauba will be gone.

If you don't want to get something "high quality" online as suggested, you can use something like Nu Finish available anywhere and is very, very cheap. I've done this many times.

For the record, I now use Meguiars #20 simply because I have it available in abundance. I've also used Klasse and Zaino with great success.

BTW....sweet setup!:xyxthumbs

well the K102's have about 6000 miles on them now. the civic is running them (205/50/15) and they are quiet, and the grip in the wet is quite good. i took them to montana and drove in the snow last month. they are not M+S tires mind you, but i was pleasantly surprised that they gripped the road a bit. they have silica, so i attribute the wet handling to that. cant comment on the wear yet; they still look new.

the H405's are not on the car yet. i have been attempting to get a set of hub-centric rings for my application. 50% of the dealers/shops say i need them, the other 1/2 do not. Even Tenzo sed it wasnt a big deal, to run without, "although you will have vibrations at certain higher speeds." Now i ask you, why would anyone NOT mind the steering wheel to shake here and there while you are driving down the interstate? sheesh!

I was leary of getting the off-name tires, but the price was too good to pass up. the 205/50/15 : 52.00/tire & the 225/45/17 was 65.00/tire out the door. so i was quite happy to give them a try.

Wow, that is pretty cheap for those sizes! Thanks again.

I would get the hub rings if possible. I was told the same thing about them, and some Maxima owners use the wheels off another make and model of car but don't have hub rings either because they can't. No problems reported and it is not a safety issue, but I was told that you should just take more care when torquing the lug nuts.

I thought most aftermarket wheels came with a standard hub bore on them (70-somethingish mm?) so that all you have to do is find some with the right inner diameter for your car and it would be relatively easy to obtain....?

flyby, I gotta 2nd BradB's comments. In addition to the reasons Brad mentioned, I keep a polymer sealant on my wheels (Klasse SG on the Benz, Zaino on the Jags) also to ward off the lousy salt we have here in the snow/rust-belt. Maybe that's not a consideration for you, though.

Gorgeous-looking wheels and tires! :bigups

i got the rings today! OD:73mm & ID:67.20mm

I also have a good torque wrench and McGard Splinedrive lug nuts which have a bearing on the cone end to keep from digging into my rim, so now i'm all set. But i think i will look around san diego tomarrow for a bottle of Klasse SG.

Now all i have to do is detail the car, it has been sitting in the carport for 2 months straight without any washing....I have been gone, so its been neglected....but a PC is on the x-mas list this year (-:

I can't wait until the day I get my 18" OZs. I know those jokers are going to be Klassed up before they go on the car. :D

To add to that...

I don't think anything other than Klasse will touch my rims (currently AIO x1, SG x4), as far as sealants go, EVER AGAIN. Klasse has proved to me to keep them very very shiny, prevent dust, and overall keep them cleaner. I barely have to take a mitt to the wheels when washing, as the hose washes off pretty much all impurities.

Good Luck and Keep Klasse'n!

~One man’s opinion~

This quote from Mike Phillips site;

To quote my friend Jack Anderson after he was asked this question by the member of a Ford Model T Club at clinic he was hosting:

Question: Jack, what brand of wax do you recommend for our cars after all of the paint and polishing work is over?

Answer: Find a product you like and use it often

Sage wisdom from a man who has been there and done that.

If you find something you like, it’s obvious it’s making you and your eyes happy, and isn’t this what’s most important?

By using a product you like often, you will insure your car will always look its best.
