Do any of you use one brand only!!

Hi all, Im a newbie but have been reading these forums for a while. I have never taken detailing seriously in the past and would basically slap any wax or polish on my car! After reading up I am now ready to step up and take it more seriously.

I was looking for a brand to use but after reading all your posts I am surprised to see how many combinations ther are out there! I have used Meguiars products in the past and originally had planned on using their Mirror Glaze line because its easy to get and doesnt cost a fortune! Im not looking for the shinesy car ever but a well protected finish.

Do any of you use only Meguiars? After reasing posts I have decided to possibly try.

1. AIO

2. SG

3. NXT

4. NXT Spray

I would however like to possibly try just meguiars but I am overly confused on the large number of different #'s they have when it seems the descriptions sound so simular! My Vehicles are as follows, any recommendations would be appreciated. As I said, Meguiars is real convenient...

2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab Sport V8. Paint is like new.

It is tough to stick to one single product line. However, I'm sure there are people out there that do. Many Zaino fans are quite dedicated and agressively dismiss the notion that they use anything but Zaino. I'm sure there are other product lines that people are dedicated to.

~One mans opinion / observation~

As Scott P said Zanio seems to be one of the few manufactures that have a strong fan (fanatical) base. There is one sports car forum that the contributors won’t use anything else period

~Hope this helps~

I use a lot of Meguiar's products, but I still prefer Menzerna's polishes.

It all comes down to results. I'd get the same results from Meguiar's probably, but I'm familiar with Menzerna and know what to expect, so I have no reason to change.

SVT4ME- Welcome to Autopia!

I'm another guy who uses stuff from a bunch of different manufacturers. It seems that there's always SOME product that somebody makes better than somebody else (even if it's just a personal preference issue).

FWIW, Mike Phillips (who works for Meguiar's) and Mirrorfinishman both use Meguiar's stuff almost exclusively.

For Meguiar's, I like the Mirror Glaze stuff, but PRIMARILY on single stage paint (that's what it was designed for). For your vehicles (both of which, I assume, are basecoat/clear), which are in good condition, you might try stuff like #80 speed glaze, #81 hand polish, #82 swirl-free polish. One older, Mirror Glaze product that might be great for you is the #16 paste wax. I love the stuff, and it looks great on white.

But you sure won't go wrong with the AIO/SG stuff from Klasse. Hey, you could prep the paint with either #82 or #80, then use AIO/SG, then top with #16. That should work great, especially on white.

No one does everything the best, and availability becomes an issue also.

Use what you feel comfortable with (mfgr. claims, info. given, etc.)

That's what's most important. Experiment, then stick with what works for you.

I'm a relative newbie too but to give you some idea of product lines, here's what I have in my cabinet

Poorboys

Autoglym

Super Resin polish, paint renovator (it works nice with the PC lowejackson!!), glass polish, bumper care, shampoo

Mothers

Carnuaba cleaner wax, Reflections wax, Duration, wheel polish, Galifornia Gold shampoo

Sonax

Extra Gloss shampoo, R2000 wheel cleaner

Others - 3M clay, Armour All (too expensive over here!), P21S & Colinite wax

Pakshak & AG MF's, Autopia & Megs foam pads (hand), terry towels and general purpose MF's, Pakshak & MegsWW drying towels, Turtle Wax water blade, 4 buckets, trolley jack, axle stands

Oh....and a PC 7424 with assorted Megs pads

Before getting involved here, I had about a tenth of these products and about 0.1% of the skill and knowledge the good people at Autopia have imparted so freely and generously!

It's a wild & fun ride and your car will look better than ever before - ENJOY!!!

With the condition and color of your vehicles I would recommend that you just go with the Klasse twins. They look great on white, are inexpensive on a per application basis, easy to use, and have tremendous durability. If you get bored with them you can always top them with some carnauba. IMHO you probably won't get anything extra from adding NXT over the SG.

I have used various products over the years but recently I have stuck with Autoglym products which I have found to be pretty good.

Autoglym doesn't seem to get mentioned very much compared to other products, I can only prosume that it is because the range is a bit limited or maybe getting a bit long in the tooth compared to other polishes.

I think Autoglym isn't mentioned much here because most Autopia members are from the US, and it is such a crowded market that an "older" line of products with less availability like Autoglym tends to get pushed to the sidelines.

It may be very common and a prominent "premium" line in the UK, but in North America it's relatively rare.

I don't try to stick to one brand but I seldom find it necessary to use products other than Poorboys and Stoners. Their stuff does most everything I need to do and I don't get confused by all the hype and language differences.
