Distilled Water

So I have been trying to perfect my washing with ONR, GDM. I've been buying my distilled water which at 88 cents a gallon is not going to kill me. A random thought came to me today as I was emptying my dehumidifier for about the 10th time in 3 days. Anyone know why I can't be using that to wash my vehicles? If I make sure I clean the tank well, it should be good to go. Anyone do this?

Have you got an air conditioner, can you find the "drain" out of it. What comes out is what you are looking for, for free. Gallons a day on humid days.

Figure it out, put a hose on the exit area and have it "down" from the source out of the A/C, that's "basically" what is coming out.

Used to use this little trick for years.

My A/C is in the attic and the drain is piped direct to the drain sewer. Odd set up in my house, radiant heat in ceiling, each room has it's o. wn thermostat for heat, one A/C thermostat. That deal probably isn't an option, although interesting.

I was just thinking of keeping the water from the dehumidifier instead of pouring it out. I was always under the "assumption" that the water was "like" distilled. Have you ever heard of anyone doing it? Know of any reasons why it wouldn't be a good idea?

It isn't about the money, even buying two gallons of water and ONR, it is soo much cheaper then an automatic car wash.

Side note, is it just me, or even when dirty, does a car washed with ONR look cleaner? Sounds weird but the vehicles just look cleaner, longer???

Huh....when I use ONR to clean my wheels they seem to get dirtier quicker and to be a bigger PIA to clean the next time :nixweiss

If you could actually get ahold of the formula that showed every component, you would be able to easily figure out why that happens, George.

How do you think that they produce that "quick, slick shine" that and ONR produces?

Notice a slight "sheeting action" when it is used?

Well, if I were sufficiently knowledgeable I could figure it out ;) But yeah...whatever it leaves behind doesn't play nice with my brakepads.

Heh heh, nice that you and Thomas Dekany were sympathetic to my observation, all too often any issues I have with ONR are, uhm....well, you know...

It'll be interesting to see how IUDJ compares in this regard

I'd call myself a NEWB detailer by Autopia standards, but thus far I've been pleased with ONR. I have waxed the wheels of the wife's Edge with some cheap "smartwax" that I wanted to use up. Maybe the Edge doesn't have a lot of break dust either? If I had a complaint of ONR it would be more of it seems to attract dust more so then the old Gold Class wash I was using.

I am taking it the dehumidifier idea is a bad one, no talk of it on this thread :)

It is not a bad idea, just slow to get enough water. An A/C is a dehumidifier, just handles more.

My a/c puts out about 4 to 5 gal a day under the high humidity conditions we are having now.
