Hey all,



I did a search as far as bird bomb strategies and found some good info. However, I don't want to use my MF towels on bird crap. Is there anything that's disposable that I could wipe with?



Toilet Paper?

Kleenex?

Griot's makes some disposable wipes saturated with Speedshine for just this purpose. I usually just reserve a Walmart MF for the bird bomb and finish off (if necessary) with a better one. And yes, that means the bird poop has to get washed off in the washing machine.
 
I carry two decent MFs in the car, of the same type that I use for QEW washing. Not my highest quality ones, but good nonetheless. As long as you don't leave the bomb to dry for a week on your towel, it shouldn't be too difficult to wash out. Just remember to wash it (BY HAND) when you get home.
 
Yeah, a pre-wash is a good idea if they are crudded up. I have found that if you DO leave it to dry for a week, you can shake most of it off the towel before washing (your bird poop may vary ;) ).
 
I've seen some "car wash cloths" at buck stores (Armor All and knock-offs). They are intended to wash your car without water, but upon inspection, they are like baby wipes-no plushness at all. Basically flat. So, although I wouldn't recommend washing the car with them, they would be OK to use for bird bombs, as they are pre-moistenned. I think Mothers, Turtle Wax, etc. also have similar products marketed for bird bombs and bug splats, but they wouldn't be only a buck.
 
OK all you purist, read no further.



I keep a bottle of spray detailer and a roll of Bounty paper towels in my trunk for emergency bird bombs. Bounty and Viva paper towels while no match for MF have the lowest wood pulp paper content of paper towels and therfore if you are going to use a paper towel, they are probably the safest.



The paper towels are not used to rub or polish but to gently remove what will come off easily.



Frankly, I find almost all bird bombs come off very easily. If they don't run-off after a QD spray, then I either didn't get to it soon enough or else I need to apply more Liquid Glass.



What doesn't come off in the field will have to wait till I get home and spray it off with water but hopefully the QD will neutralize or dilute the acids to minimize etching.



Whatever any of you do about bird droppings, keep in mind we probably need to be more cautious than ever to minimize the risk of bird flu. I don't know if it can spread through bird droppings, but I don't want to be the one that finds out if it can.
 
I go the other way- I use my softest, plushest MFs as I want to minimize the chance of marring (bird poop is often abrasive). MFs are another renewable resource, unlike time and (factory) paint. The MFs always launder up just fine anyhow.
 
You could always get some of those Pinnacle Safe scrub bug and tar pads and cut them up into smaller pieces, disposing of each piece per use. I've never used these, but you may look into it.
 
I find that licking it off works best that way I don't have to remember to wash a towel when I get home.

I keep QD in the trunk with some MF's and paper towels. I saturate the spot with QD and lightly pick up the chunks. I follow with the MF and QD to be certain it is all gone.
 
I made the mistake of wiping it off with a gas station blue paper towel...ONCE



I keep some Sprawl Mart MFs in the back..and a bottle of QD..

Even when wet (they do get softer then) those things scare me. Just no way am I gonna touch my paint with them.
 
As mentioned in previous posts, a good MF and QD spray should do it. I think its important because the waste can contain seeds, sand, etc and easily scratch.



I've never had to use this, but if its really stuck on bad, try full strength car wash soap and saturate a small part of MF with it, wipe gently.
 
Thanx for all the suggestions guys. I will go with AutoCadillac's recommendation of Bounty. My process is to put a thin sheet of paper towel/kleenex/tp on the bird bomb, spray it down, and let is soak for a few minutes. Next I use another piece of paper towel to lift it off. Then, straight to the trash can.



I really don't feel like having my MF towels gunked up with bird crap. That stuff is NASTY.



I don't really see any scratching after using paper towels/kleenex/tp.

EEK. I nearly threw up in my mouth!



But yup I keep some cheapie MFs and QD under my seats for the occasion when I see a present from our feathered friends.
