This morning on the way to work at 5:30, traffic on either side of forced me into a blob of "white stuff" on a freeway frontage road. I felt the right front tire hit the blob but it didn't make a bump - it made a squish and splat sound. Oh sh__, what was it? I pulled into my regular resteraunt for some coffee and breakfast about 1/4 mile farther down the road and broke out the flashlight. Wheel wells, front and rear, were all speckled white as well as the ground effects and some of this crap was slung off the tires up on to the passenger door and the flare side. I touched the stuff near the bottom of the ground effects where it rolls under the side (less visible there) with my finger and it came away white, but a little gritty. It didn't seem to be paint. Because it was essentially dry already, I tried a bigger splatter and this it where I determined it was white sanded grout. Oh crap! Nothing was open so continued my way to work. Long day wondering how the hell to get this junk off may paint.
Ah Ha - warm vinegar. Works for concrete, so it oughta work on grout seeing as it is cementacious as well, right? Nope! Nada. Silch. I went searching in the house and found some ZAP - the label says it contains Muriatic and Sulfuric acid, but is "safe" for mild hand contact. WTH - so I tried some on a small obscure spot on the ground effects. A little rubbing with a terry towel and low and behold, off it comes with very little effort. Tried a bigger spot next, except this time I wet the terry towel with the Zap and wiped the whole area and let it sit a little and this time it came off easier than before. Now, I'm really bold and wipe all the crap off the painted surfaces where ever I could see this mess.
SUCCESS - no more white on red polka dots. OK, I gotta wash the beast to neutralize the acid, so hosed down the whole Zapped area with a strong jet of water. Washed with EO car wash soap and did another monster rinse, flooding style. Washed again and did a jetting rinse follwed by a flooding rinse. Wiped down with a WW MF to dry.
No visible scratches - WHOOT! No evidence of corrosion in the finish - WHOOT! Just my normal brilliant shine.
