Direct sun products and CMW's performance in the sun

It seems most of my jobs lately have been in the sun or in the partial sun, e.g. carports that don't provide shade at certain parts of the day.

Sooooooo ... I'm beefing up my products for sun use. Plan to order PB's PP and EX-P (presently own PwC and EX).

Also, I've read CMW is a product that can be used in the sun, but I'd like to hear from those who used CMW in direct sun on it's performance.

Oh, yeah ... I also have AS carnuba wax, but still would like to try CMW if it's a good direct sun product.

I wouldn't use CMW at straight up noon on black but you can use it on fairly warm paint. No matter what I use, I try to avoid using product on paint too hot to put my hand on.

I had a job today that was in the direct sun in a driveway with no shade in sight. After washing and applying SSR2 I hosed the vehicle down again, trying to hose off dust and more importantly cool the surface down a little. The roof was too hot to touch! I finished with PwC and EX with good results.

Certainly not the conditions I like to work in, but duty called;)

Yeah, sometimes you just don't have a choice. I do try to set up my schedule so I am not waxing between about 11 AM and 2 PM.

NHBFAN, welcome to detailing in New Orleans. everyone around here uses a garage as storage, so detailing in the direct sun will be something you'll have to perfect as an art form. there are many days when i have to put a towel under my spare hand while i'm applying something with the other so that i don't burn myself. summer's on it's way too. ;)

sonnydaze1, thanks for the 2 towel tip.

Yeah I know summer's a coming. Believe it almost hit 90 degrees yesterday. Besides stocking up on "sun friendly" products, I'm also stocking up on ball caps, sunscreen, and gatorade!

BTW, that job was off Vintage Dr. in Kenner ... I'm guess pretty close to you.

What products do you use in direct sun?

Scottwax,

Yeah I knew I was in for it.

It was the only job I had scheduled for the day and the client requested a noon appointment. I considered trying to move them to an earlier or later appointment, but then I decided it was time to put some of these "sun friendly" products to the test. PB's (as usual) came through with flying colors.

BTW, FD worked pretty well in sun also.

i've pretty much mastered the art of direct sun detailing. after ten years of doing this i've got my own ways of dealing with the sun. most of the time though i've got my helpers coming right behind me taking off whatever i've just applied. if i'm by myself then i absolutely do 1 section at a time(hate that method). for polishes and waxes i bleed 1z. :)

oh yeah, if you were right off vintage you were in my neighborhood. i was out by lake catherine detailing a boat in the mid-day sun yesterday - did i mention i hate doing boats, especially when they're not well taken care of.

At least you end up with a nice pre-cancerous tan, right? ;)

Yep, since I get to work in the sun for my regular job you'd think I'd have enough sense to pick a hobby/part-time vocation that involves the great indoors:nixweiss
