Differences between Perfect-It II rubbing compounds?

I have a 32 ounce bottle of Perfect-It II rubbing compound and the part number is 05973. It doesn't mention anything about how abrasive it is.



Is this the same thing as 39002 Perfect-It II rubbing compound fine cut, but in a different jar?



Also, I have menzerna IP, and I was looking for something that has more bite than IP but a bit less than a rubbing compound. Would DACP fit the bill? I don't want to burn through my clear coat accidentally. I would be using a PC to apply it.

Well there are three different grades of rubbing compounds for 3M.



3Mâ„¢ Perfect-Itâ„¢ II Rubbing Compound 05973 is a medium cut rubbing compound

Specially designed medium cutting, liquid compound for removing 1200, 1500, and 2000 color sanding scratches in automotive paints including clear coats.



But package is kinda misleading along with the description. I think they are all fine cut compounds since it is listed together on the site as fine cut.

DACP should be a little more agressive than IP...



As for burning the clear coat with the PC, unless you do a compounding of the car with a PC and lambswool polishing pad every week, have no fear...

Another question I have is when people say they do like 4 passes with X product do they mean they just cover a panel 4 times? So just pushing the PC once across a given area of paint counts as 1 pass? I was doing maybe 20-25 passes over a scratched area with a orange power pad and PI II RC before I was getting any results. Does this seem excessive?
 
No, thats not excessive. Most polishes take time to break down with the PC, I average 3-5 minutes depending on temperature and humidity.



As in 4 passes, it is 4 work-ins of the polish.
 
Is that 3-5 minutes per pass or 3-5 minutes total per area that you are working on (I assume a 2 foot X 2 foot area). Thank you! I just got my PC less than a week ago and I am not too familiar with how powerful or how mild it is with the different compounds.
 
3-5 minutes per section (1/4 of hood, upper driver door, lower driver door half the trunk, etc. etc.) working in the polish.
