I have a few questions ......

If I buy some Poli-seal (do 1 coat) , opti-seal and OCW (multiple coats) and the OID will that give me good solid winter protection ??

I live in Wisconsin where the road salt is plentiful . I use touch less car washes and come home and then I use ONR and then apply something.

Also does it bond when you use poli-seal which has carnuba/sealant blend , then go to a sealant only with opti seal then back to a carnuba sealant blend ?

Can I rotate between Opti-seal and OCW during weekly clean ups ?

I do use ONR for quite some time and do like it a lot .

My black (GM paint) takes a lot of work to keep clean and even though I have a few coats of 1000P on it now , just looking for something that easier to apply and maintain or should I just use OCW (weekly)on top of the 1000P and let it ride ????

Thank you

Mike

Honestly, living in a fairly harsh winter environment and seeing first hand the benefits of Opti-coat I can't see why someone would not opt to have it on their car for protection in the winter months. It's on both of my cars now that will see winter duty here in Ohio, If it lasts all winter and I get to spring and decide to remove it I'll still feel like I got my money's worth knowing protection for the vehicle has not faded as winter draws on. It's been on my Audi now for months which sits outside 24/7 and I'm very impressed. I'd have to say I was one of the longer hold outs as I just wasn't sure about this product but if anything it'll be on my cars exposed to the elements in the winter moving forward.

p.s. I wouldn't use poli-seal as a base for winter, It's a great one step but I don't find the best longevity with it and I also don't feel other products bond that well over top of it.

I have to agree, if you want to keep maintenance to a bare minimum OptiCoat is really your only logical choice. As a fellow All Terrain Crew Cab owner, I know how big the task of keeping up with the finish can be! I certainly wouldn't want to be forced to mess with it outdoors in the winter.

Add another vote for Opticoat. While I love Optimum products, none of them are durability champs (Opticoat excluded). If you have a warm enough place to apply the products, you will do fine though.

What does the finish look like with Opti-Coat, though? I've read a ton of threads about it - read about application methods/issues, length of protection, how it seems to repel water/dirt, ease of maintenance...haven't read anything that talks about how glossy and deep the finish looks (as compared to the popular waxes/sealants/instant detailers.)

And if you use something like Optimum Instant Detailer on it after each wash, is that going to enhance the gloss the way it does when it goes over a layer of wax/sealant?

Opticoat looks just like regular clear coat. It doesn't seem to add or detract from the look of a well polished surface. OID or OCW will wake it up and make it look a bit more glossy though.

:werd: Another product I really like for topping over OptiCoat is CarPro's ReLoad. Darkens the finish and adds a lot of slickness. Can be streaky if you aren't careful with the application method though.

I'm going to have to try this...I'll read up on the application over the winter to make sure I do it right...

If you can get a couple coats of Opti-Seal on the car over the next two washes, after that, weather permitting, when you wash the car with ONR, add an ounce or so of Optimum Car Wax to the bucket as well (unless it is really filthy, not sure if OCW will affect cleaning if the paint is particularly nasty but will be testing it when possible) should help keep the paint slick and protected.

I have Opti-Coat on my Accord (put it on when it was still my Dad's car in September 2009) and I've been doing the ONR/OCW wash regiment the last couple of months I've owned the car. Really nice slickness and depth. Not that I need any additional protection but the added depth is visually pleasing.
