Did I mess up?

I realized that I was cleaning my car the wrong way, after reading some post on detailcity. I would wash, dry with a shamy, then wax. All of a sudden I'm reading about clyabars and polish. Is it alright to redo the whole sha-bang from the beginning? If so how, do i use dishsoap to remove the wax? and are there any standard step to having a gorgeous clean job?
ie. wash, then clay, then polish, then wax?

sorry for all the questions,. it just I would really like to keep my car looking as good as possible and protecting it properly.

You can strip off the old wax by using Meguiars Deep Crystal Step 1 paint cleaner. Very nice product(try autozone) for doing just this when you want to try different products.

If you have never clayed before, wash the vehicle, and clay. Dont worry about removing the wax on it, the clay will still work. If you drop the clay, throw it away, its done.

If you are going to be using the same wax, you can re wax a freshly clayed, and clean surface without doing anymore polishing, assuming you dont want to.

It's alright to redo the whole thing.
There are plenty of fine car washes out there, there is no reason to use dish soap on your car.

Your claying and polishing should remove your wax

Wash
Clay
Wash
Swirl removal (if necessary)
Polish
LSP

Good luck

I used to be the same way as you, but hey, we all start somewhere!

Just to add to Jeff's post, cut your clay bar into 3-4 pieces. If you do this, you only drop one small piece of the clay and have plenty more to use :)
