Did Groupon destroy this detail business?

Just something I have noticed, Groupon seems to be one of the larger deal sites and has tons of members and sells a huge amount of vouchers per deal. It's seems the smaller, lesser known deal sites like livingsocial.com would be a better company for a detailer to run one of these promotions through becuase they would probably sell only half as many deals as Groupon would because they have fewer members. Just a thought for anybody considering this who is worried about selling too many deals.

My deal on livingsocial is running this Friday - Sunday. I am interviewing people now to come in and help me with the huge increase in details I will no doubt see. I'll try to make a thread about my experiences... if I have the time.

I could be mistaken, but I think you can specify a limit for the maximum number of vouchers you want to sell through Groupon... once that number is hit the deal closes.

That being the case, it makes Groupon the better site to deal with since even if some folks don't buy your deal, you're getting your name out there in front of a lot more people.

Exactly. I was thinking of offering "a deal" for a paint correction package for ONLY $500-700 dollars. Many won't jump on it, but I'm sure a lot of people will read into the different and get interested. I'm a believer that the majority of my potential target market doesn't know I exist / doesn't know of this type of service, and if they did, they'd be hooked.

I didn't realize Groupon would set a maximum. I don't know if livingsocial will, I didn't ask because my deal will have "subject to availability" in the conditions. But of course I will do all I can to honor every deal even after the 6 months voucher expiration is up.

I wonder if Groupon will let you set the expiration to 6 months instead of 12 like livingsocial will.

Well I ended up selling 292, which is perfect. So far no issues at all. Fist appt. is in 15min and my guy is ready to get started. Appointment book is filling up quickly and I have another guy ready to start a little later in the week. They will be doing the livingsocial details and helping me prep for more involved detailing. So I will be running the place, booking all these appointments and doing the more skilled work. Will update at another time how things are progressing. And so far, quite a few upsells to a shampoo and a couple for a quick machine polish.

Here's the link if anyone wants to see what my deal looked like.

Looks like a cash cow. Upsell, upsell, upsell.....

I've also gotten a couple calls from people who saw the deal but didn't buy it because they needed a more involved detail than the livingsocial deal. These people may not have ever found out about me otherwise.

Yep, that one's working. Not sure why the first one didn't.
