Did anyone get to try the Rupes Big Foot at SEMA

You don't need to use their pads unless you want their polishes. I know I didn't spend enough time with it, but max speed felt like the flex 3401 at speed 4

UPDATE - rang GNG sales and they said we need to use rupes foams. no point to me buying a machine for $700 bucks that I cant put microfibre, velvet, denim and other types of pad materials on it including foam pads that I prefer like buff and shine hex logic

So the flex is what I'll go with next, then the buff pro

It would be nice if someone could find out as to whether or not we are going to need to exclusively have to use the Rupes polishing pads. I mean if this one going to be the new product to best the Flex 3401 then we need to know if all those pads that I just bought going to be junk for use with Rupes Big Foot DA.

Yes, they recommend their pads and liquids.

The engineer spent a lot of time trying to balance the machine, and it certainly paid off. The thing is, it is sensitive to 5 grams, so he's designed the pads with the weight in mind. You could sense the difference between a new pad, and a pad that had been used for awhile.

Regardless, it was still very comfortable to use.

I will be using the machine with various pads and liquids, as most of us will. If the weight is an issue, I'll likely add weight to the plate, or drill the plate until it is lighter. I'm not overly concerned about the pads and liquids. If the machine is popular enough, maybe pads will be made/weighted to accommodate the machine. The mf discs aren't all that heavy, nor are the Surbuf (I was just weighing pads the other day and they varied from 25-55 grams). Not sure of the weight of the Rupes pads.

Overall, I'm not going to worry about any issues in regards to the pads and liquids just yet.

The machine itself is a marvel, in the random orbital realm at least.

definately agree with you there Kevin. big jump from 3 and 6mm industry standard and the 8mm flex

wonder if we will see 30mm in coming years

the 75mm one with 15mm orbit is what I will definately try in the near future, to support my new Metabo SXE400 80mm RO

A proprietary machine or two for our industry alone would be awesome. thinking about a reciprocating straight line polisher that mimicks left to right hand polishing.

may not produce the friction though, compared to a rotating, cylindrical drum, forced rotation or random orbital machine

I've also heard rumors that Milwaukee Tools is testing out a couple of prototype polishers. Looks like most tool manufactures are realizing the opportunities within the detailing trade. Hopefully we'll see some different offerings from more manufacturers soon.

I think the biggest thing is cost, then availibility. $700 is too rich for my blood, makes that Festool thing look like a bargain. Betting Accumulator will get 2 (just in case) LOL- j/k. I hope it's like TV's - price drops after a year or two. Me? I was getting a dynabrade, but an unexpected issue with a neighbor selling land beside me resulted in a new survey and deed thing, $925.00 later, we have the property straightened out.

This video makes me NOT want to get that polisher. Takes for ever!

i'm wondering how much difference there is compared to the flex. it would be nice to see a side by side comparison between the two...

I used it at SEMA, felt like the 3401 on speed 4. I mean I can use the GG pc and wool and even with an additional step, I can finish faster.
