After following this board for some time, did my first detail of 2 month old silver I35 over Mem. Day weekend.
Washed with Maquires Gold Wash (had washed on a previous weekend with Dawn)
Clayed with Clay Magic
Washed again with Gold Wash
Zainoed with Z5 w/ZFX
Wiped off with white Fieldcrest Regency towel.
Observations:
-- Clay Magic was very easy to use. I cut the bar in half, which was plenty, and i neaded regularly. Used the CM lube, which worked fine. Very little residue left, and when i did see some, i just re-lubed and clayed again. Those who think a new car does not need to be clayed should think again.
-- Used Z5 rather than Z2 which I also have. Figure I'll put a coat of Z2 on over the Z5 this weekend. Any comments on this? Should I have just gone with Z2 given the great shape of the paint from being new?
-- I'm not sure if I put the Zaino on too thin, but boy it went on easy and came off easy. I used the Zaino cotton applicator, dampened and sprayed occasionally with Mequirs QD, but it felt at times like I was spreading nothing. I used less than one ounce of the Z5. Any suggestions on better or differnant app. techniques?
-- I let dry for a couple hours, knowing that I would only do one coat. Came off miraculously easy with the cotton towel.
Proof is in the pudding. I don't have a digicam to show you, but yesterday it rained here, and it beaded up on the car like droplets on a hot stove. Then parked the car in the garage while it was still wet and beaded last night, and this morning it had evaporated without a water spot and the car looked just like it did when i was done waxing it. Very impressed with Zaino, of course I'm coming from NuFinishing my wife's van twice a year, so my baseline may be a bit skewed.
Question: can you use Z5 or Z2 on the glass? I did my chrome wheels with it, but didn't know about the windows.
