Diamond Plate specific wash?

Hi All,

At work, we spent 10 hours total polishing the D.P. on the back of our fire engine at work. We also did the wheels too.

Does anyone know if there is a specific wash for diamond plate that will keep it looking as if it wash just polished? One of the guys on another shift swears there is but I'm not familiar with it.

Thanks,

Steve

Well, you could take a look at Duragloss #831, but I think it's more for situations where you're not necessarily keeping sealant or wax on the finished product at all times, but if you have huge areas of, say, polished diamond plate that you want to "spray, let dwell, and rinse."

You could follow up with a sealant or wax after 831. Not sure if it needs to be kept away from painted surfaces.

Zoops used to be a company that made aluminum products for street rods, and they had some aluminum cleaners. Haven't looked at their stuff in a while.

Thanks guys. Part of our problem turns out to be other shifts using Dawn soap as a car wash. Even though I will leave a vehicle soap out, guys grab the Dawn instead. In turn, we know what happens.

I hear many good things about DG products. I'll let the other detailing guy I work with know about the 831.

What does your fire department use to polish aluminum (I assume it's aluminum and not stainless steel) diamond (tread) plate?

Do you polish it by hand or do you use a polishing machine, like a dual-action orbital buffer or rotary buffer?

If you do find a wash for aluminum diamond plate that doesn't streak as it dries, let us know. Here in Wisconsin, we also have construction worker's pick-up trucks that have tool boxes made out of diamond plate and boat trailers that have fenders made of this also, so any suggestions on products to take care of this material's surface and appearance would be helpful. (Plus all the fire departments whose trucks are covered with diamond plating!)

On a related note, I beg to ask what wax/sealant/polish you use for the red/florescent yellow paint on fire trucks and rescue vehicles??

(Inquiring minds want to know)

Rule #1 - I don't think it's necessary to use Dawn as your main wash soap. I'd rather see you switch to a dedicated car washing liquid instead.

I agree 100%. Sadly, we have booth lazy co-workers and a town that sees proper shampoo as a luxury. Between my auto detailing co-worker and myself, we bring in the right stuff but the other shifts don't care.

I have even set up buckets and wash mitts. I have found the buckets with grit guards removed and wadh mitts on the floor.
