DG question for the DG crowd

don't know exactly because once I got to 105 I didn't want to ever use anything else tbh. I believe the 501 helps the 105 bond better to the paint, but maybe that's one of the other DG products.

In my opinion, which in some respects doesn't reflect that of the company folks, 101 is a sort of cleaner/sealant. I find it to be a better paint cleaner than 105. If the paint is in pretty good shape, 101 will clean it up and leave a very nice gloss. I follow it up with 845 but it will last awhile on its own. 111 is basically a pure sealant and has no cleaning ability at all. Looks good, is one of their older products that has sort of fallen out of favor. Sort of like 101 without the cleaning ability. 501 is their marine paint cleaner, the big dog of the DG line. If the paint is fairly rough, this is what you want - in the Duragloss line. Doesn't do much correction but is a good cleaner. Also lays down a very nice, fairly long lasting shine. I really like this stuff but if your car has been sitting out in a field for a couple years, keep looking. I consider it to be an AIO. 105 is also a cleaner/sealant, though not an especially good one imo. Doesn't have much cleaning ability (this is where the folks at DG might part ways with me) but lays down a pretty good shine. I follow everything with 845. This is purely subjective and applies only to these products, but on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the least cleaning ability, 101 is a 4 or 5, 111 is a 1, 501 is a 10 and 105 is maybe a 5. I likely don't have the discerning eye that most folks here have, but using any of these products followed by 845 and boosted after every other wash with Aquawax is about as good as my red daily driver is going to get. Hope I answered your question, if in a roundabout way.

How does 101, 111, 501 and 105 differ?

Some have stated that 105 is their best looking sealant...why?

Its funny, they all really look quite different.

101 is a great AIO, looks very wet.

111 looks like the old old Z2, before the pro version came out. Laminated plastic look. Not an AIO.

105 looks deeper than Z2Pro but doesn't have quite the same gloss. Mild cleaning ability.

501 very good cleaner, looks good, but not near as good as 105.

According to Dr. Bailey at DG:

111 = pure sealant rated 1 on cleaning ability

101 = rated about 4-5 on cleaning ability

105 = rated about 9-10 on cleaning ability

According to Jerry at DG:

DG 501 is a sealant with heavy cleaners and nano abrasives, considered an all in one, will remove existing protection, very durable

Moved to DG after using Zaino for a number of years. I found 105 to be a wetter looking than Z2 Pro, offer better protection against water spots and bird bombs and very durable lasting 5-6 months. I continue to use it as a base coat under less durable LSPs that I might be using for a different look.

Dan--that's what Dr Bailey stated on another website a few years ago and then confirmed to me in an email when I first switched to DG from Z.

I have to agree with Dan, I really don't see 105 being a super strong cleaner... it does clean some mild tar and such, but I wouldn't use the word strong. I've used 105 A LOT too. I will add that it depends on what you are using as far as pad/towel.

Both those guys give somewhat random answers at time. Must be all those years brewing chemicals :D Anyway, I don't think anyone that used both 105 and 501 could say 105 is stronger.

I will just say that it doesn't matter because if you are using it for cleaning and your car is that bad... you should be claying it or using a stronger car wash or even a APC on your paint. 105 SUPPOSEDLY also has the ability to not clean itself off when layering. That was not from a rep either, that was from a guy who posted about it... I can't remember where. I'll have to see if I can find it.

So do any of you use the 601 Polish/bonding agent or whats your thoughts on that ? Im about to redo my silver Vette and have all then DG stuff. I will probably do 845 to give it more shine maybe ??? after the DG process. Should I skip the 601 ? Should I skip the 845 ? All will be maintained by FC&S and AW .

I use the 601 every time I apply 105--just mix one part 601 to 4 parts 105 (or other DG sealant) and apply as you normally would (only mix what your can use at the time)--can't remember who started this method, but it is now approved by DG--even mentioned on their website--alows you to add another layer in 2 hours. I've read a number of posts from people with white or silver paint who put on a coat of DG105 for the extended protection then top it with DG 111 for it's glass like shine. Fo

Fond memories of Milwaukee (but not the wind wipping up Wisconsin Ave from the lake in the winter)--lived there for 4 years while attending Marquette--hope to get up that way this summer as it's a reunion year.

What bugs me about PBA and the mixing is not a single person has proven it does ANYTHING. DG is so durable without a single thing under it, we're talking 5-6 months on a 24x7-DD, that makes me question what the benefit is.

True, true--never seen any proof 601 extends durability or look. The benifit to me is that you can top it after a couple of hours rather than waiting overnight.
