I just picked up DG #105 and 601.

Directions for the 601 say:
#3 do not remove prior to polishing
#4 Apply DG PC,CCP,FGPC or your favorite polyamino-silicone polish?

Step #3 do i leave the 601 on before applying #501
As for step four im not up on the DG acronym's.. I'm also guessing im applying the #601 and #105 after using a SMR ?

Where does this all end (OCD):confused:
 
That's how I did the trooper car. I applied the 601, waited about a half hour then the 105.
It turned out great and I received a lot of compliments on my patrol car today at our surprise post - wide inspection today at the trooper office. The paint was very very slick. I did have a lot of handprints on my hood by the time I left the office though.

do your polishing with what ever polish you chose to correct and clean paint.......then put the 601 on...leave it on ..do not remove it...wait about 10 minutes for it to haze.....then put the 105 on..over the 601..let haze ..20-30 minutes..buff off...done...

What Al said except leave it on the paint for 30 to 45 minutes before buffing.
If you are going to add another coat like next time you wash your vehicle then just apply 105 wait same time period as before and buff off same for 3rd coat then you can apply aqauwax because 3 coats is optimal for the 105 after that then the aquawax can be applied.

So #601 is a bonding agent for #105 not confusing except DG uses the word polish and that is what through me off because most polishes i've used are to be applied then wiped off.

How long between coats before you layer? I'm also guessing that your speaking of #105 when you say leave it on 30-40 mnts before buffing.

I'm glad to see your getting the hang of it(detailing)I remember your 1st post.Unlike me i see you found a product you like and from the sound of things the Patrol car is looking good.:bigups

yes Duragloss calls their sealant a polish...just like zaino does and a couple others..but 105 is a sealant....

steps to follow after you do your SMR..

1, put the 601 on and let it haze...go thin....10 minute wait..leave it on..do not buff off...only needed on the first coat on freshly cleaned paint..it sorta melts into the paint..sorta like Z-1 in the zaino system....it makes the sealant bond better and adds gloss and makes it more durable..put on by hand

2, put the 105 on thin... put on by hand...let it haze...30 minutes...buff off....have not seen any staining of trim so far..but wipe off if it gets on to be safe...

3, if you want to layer the 105...wait at least 24 hours....but before you add another layer of 105... wipe down with Fast clean and shine if car is dusty or if clean use Aquawax and wipe off...then add another layer of 105...this method is like using z-8 or Z-6 with zaino system..it adds more pop and bling..

My friend used this method and his truck looks a mile deep and very wet looking..and a deep gloss....wait about 30 minutes after you you do a wipe down to put the 105 on...and 3 layers is tops..gives the best look and best durablity..but wait 24 hours at the least between layers..

I am going to do my truck over this way also...it is a big difference in looks...

Pretty much waht Al said except do not use aquawax until the 3rd or 2nd if thats all the coat you want.

Used some Duragloss wash this morning on my car very good reminded me of the older formula of Zaino wash the newer formula not like as much.

Easy to do once you get the hang of it.

Mongo..can you tell me why you can not use it between coats..curious...have you used any 105 sealant yet to try this out..

I have seen it done this way and it comes out nicer with the spray between coats than with out..same as using Z-8 between coats on Z system...and it has been 6 weeks since it was done and looks as good as day 1...it adds some nice deep wet gloss...

I did 3 coats without doing it that way and his looks so much deeper and glossy..and both trucks are the same color...

When he called and ordered his stuff from DG..he spoke to Jerry and was told it was ok to do so as long as polish coats were at least 24 hrs apart..and the use of AW or FC&S could be used between coats as they do bond to the sealant...and that it would add to durability and shine..as the info says below...

Fast Clean and Shine info:

Is formulated to remove dust and light soil from painted surfaces without scratching or removing durable polishes. Actually bonds with the polish for added gloss and durability..

The Aquawax is just the straight spray sealant..which also bonds to sealant....adding gloss and durability....

so why can't you use it between coats..I will...

I put on 105 without 601 and the gloss was outstanding. So you say to put on 2 or 3 coats . I may try that. I was going to wash tomorrow and use Aquawax , but maybe Ill just put on another coat of 105.
 
Here's another question without starting a new thread.

I used OCW on a car a few days ago, but within the next couple weeks i want to use the DG on it before fall. Do you see a problem with just doing a wash then using #601 and #105 ?
 
I guess you could but I would do a dawn wash 1 ounce of dawn to 2 and a half gallons of water. Then clay with claymagic system or mothers your preference rewash with duragloss carwash. then use Meguiars deep crystal cleaner #1. Then rewash with DG shampoo or use Dragloss QD if you have it for a wipedown. Then ready for the duragloss PBA and 105.

601 is a surface prep product...so you should be set...it says right on the bottle "will loosen old wax and polish"....so you should not have a problem....

the wax content of OCW is very minimal..it dies fast for me...it is a polymer/carnauba product with the polymer being the major ingredient of the product...next would be the UV blockers as that is what separates according to Anthony Orosco..I think it was originally called Sun-x for its UV blocking abilities...

so you should be set....

Al i have also found less durability in OCW. I figured in another couple weeks the OCW should be down to nothing.AL the vehicle in question is the Chevy Trailblazer ;)

Hi Mongo, I clayed and polished the vehicle already, since where approaching fall i offered to put a sealant on before winter gets here.

prepares painted surfaces for polishing

loosens old wax and polishes

That my friend is good news because i didn't want to remove the wax i applied already..

JOE I called Duragloss before I put it on my Ranger and ask what I needed to do after polishing with MEG.# 80 and he told me to just put the 105 on over the #80. 601 is for wax. You don't need to go through the Zaino routine of washing and polishing and washing again, Just wipe the 601 on like AL-53 said and then the 105 you will be fine.It has been a month since I put 105 on my Ranger and it has not even been washed. The wife and I went shopping last week in Kokomo about 100 miles round trip and when we got their i noticed bugs stuck on the front but when I got home they were gone.
I guess the wind dried them out and blew them off dirt blows off while driving don't know if I will ever need to wash it if I don't drive in the rain.
A fast once over with the FC&S is all it needs.
