DG 501 instead of 601/105

Anyone use just 501 instead of doing the 601/105 ?

Whats your thoughts on it ? I'm looking to put a base coat on and a coat or 2 of 845 and just maintain with AW. (Going on GM Black paint.)

I use 501 all the time by itself. Its my favorite wheel wax as well. Crazy durable and cleans very very well. I think the 601+105 combo is hocus pocus anyway. I can't tell any difference in 105 vs 601+105, in looks, durability, or otherwise.

Fallguy, I like the way you think. That's my favorite combo - 501. 845 and maintain with AW. An added huge benefit - everything is local. Don't have to order or pay shipping. Looking forward to seeing what you think of it.

I MAY divide my hood into 3 sections and do 501/111 , 501/845 and just 501 just for the heck of it to see what it looks like.

Your lucky that stuff is local for you I have to order my stuff which I always order from the mfg. anyway.

I'd love to see the results of that. I'd bet all the way on 501 alone.

I have the black Tahoe done in 501. Looks so sweet I hate to top it with anything . Is the 501 durable ??

I've found 501 to have pretty decent longevity by itself, maybe 3 months. I emphasize "maybe" because I had it on my car for a couple months in cool weather before re-doing it and topping with 845. 101, which has a light cleaner, lasts pretty well. 111 seems to be the only LSP which DG has that isn't a cleaner/aio sealant...and frankly, I like 845 better than 111.

I recently experimented with Duragloss topped by 845. I have a "diamond white" paint and since it was fairly new and in great shape I just used clay and a paint cleanser prep (P21s) so I did not need 501 for any cleaning. There was a tip at a detailer's blog that said using Duragloss' Fast Clean and Shine on the paint first would make applying the sealant easier because it would smooth out the surface even further. That makes sense by hand application but with my Griot DA machine I really could not tell any difference by using FC&S. I then went straight to 105/601 combo with two coats, followed by 845. I have used 111 in the past and it is excellent and looks great on this paint but I must admit that 845 is my favorite. My recollection is that 111 looked a little more "sterile" while the 845 looked "waxier" (is that a word?). Hard to explain the look but 845 is a little richer on this paint. Top all this with AquaWax now and then and you are set to go!

501 is very durable. i mix it 4:1 with 601 and have had it last on customer's vehicles for up to 4 months. 601 helps its bonding and allows it to get wet without a 12-24 hour curing time. on removal, if you have a hard time removing it, spray some aquawax on the MF and wipe away. remember to apply 501/601 thin. less is more

At one time I was searching for products that would make white paint really pop. I came across DG501. DG501 is simply amazing on how it works on white it really makes it pop. Really cleans and the longevity is just great. I do use 601; since I am not sold that it is really needed. I prefer topping 501 with 845IW and this combo is good for 6mo.++ plus I tend to go over just because my truck sits outside 24/7/365.

Its been a few days and finally got the 845 coat on it. I may do another coat , but not sure it will do anything except make sure coverage is even.

How soon can I apply AW after 845 ?

I may try putting some 915 on/in a spot or half my hood since my truck is black to see how it looks and hold up to washes, not sure yet . I may wait til fall so I can do my full Collinite detail for winter. Ive used it before and its a great carnuba and has great longevity for a carnuba wax. granted there maybe some thats looks a little better but durability is a major factor for my customers and myself.

I have to find a wash to use because I feel the ONR and even the DG seem to weaken the Collinite which I find strange since the Collinite is so damn durable.

Well I did the 501 , 845 and finished with AW on black. Looks real nice . I appreciate the input guys , thanks. Can't wait to try it on silver. I have to do a Volkswagen Jetta that is gray metallic so I'm gonna do this on there too. She how it looks. The customers a have really want shine and durability because of our hard weather here . Many of the use touchless washes so I need stuff that will somewhat stand up to harsher conditions.
