I am in the market to buy a new buffer. I used to have a PC. What exactly are the advantages and disadvantages of the Larger "professional" buffers over the consumer models?

What are some other good professional buffers out there? Skil, black and decker, etc?

Advantages: Better faster results

Dis": Take awhile to learn how to use (trust me. I know :)
Can burn through paint and cause clearcoat failure.

Makita 9227C is another one. I've got it and love everything about it cept the loop handle. I'm getting use to it though...

<strong class='bbc'>What type of pads do you use with the Dewalt buffer? It seems that it uses a lrger 7 or 8 inch pad. [/b]</blockquote>
I've got 8" pads for my Makita.

NY detailer didn't buy the Dewalt, instead he bought another Makita. Got it at a good price, $190 and it'll be picked up Monday.

The Makita with the loop handle?

Ghaa tell me if he has some other handle or something he puts on it. That loop handle sucks. Otherwise it's a great buffer

Thanks for all the info

I went out and bought a mikita today. i wanted to get the dewalt but i was in a rush as i needed one.

I got a real good deal on it to (i think)

I got the mikita variable speed with velcro backing plate, and two foam waffle pads for $200.00.

Cant wait for th weather to stop raining so i can use it, and teach jason how to use it

Thanks again for all the info

Brian

Even if it has a loop handle it still is better then the old stand-bys of days gone by. It's lighter, quieter and easier on the arms, neck and back. Not to mention the results are great as well. Love the speed control and clutched start-up it has.

Meguiar's pads are great as are 3M pads.

Just my .02 cents worth.

Does the DeWalt from Harbor Freight come with the velcro backing plate? If not, where can I purchase one from.

I have only used the 3M waffle pads so far. Are there any better cutting pads and finishing pads?

www.motorhead.net carries Meguiars backing plates for rotary buffers. I believe the model number is W-65 (5/8 spindle). Also if you have a local auto paint supply house you may wish to call them, I got my Meguiars plate locally for $20.

Brian, I purchased mine last December for $149 from harborfreight.com, but the price floats (at Harbor Frieght) between $149 - $199 from month-to-month. It might pay to wait a bit if you can.
