DeWalt Dw443 Spindle/Backing Plate Info Wanted

Hi Guys,

I'm considering the purchase of a DeWalt DW443 DA polisher and would appreciate some information from those of you that own this machine, namely:

Are replacement/alternative backing plates available?

What is the spindle type/thread/diameter?

Thanks in advance,

Alan W

There is no backing plate options I can think of. I have one and love it. It has twice as big motor than the PC, and will NOT bog down when polishing. The speeds also go from 4000 opm to 7 opm, I love mine and will never have a PC.

I agree. I t will fit 6.5" flat and up to 7.5" concaved. Pretty much can be used with many manufacture like LC, Propel and Buff & Shine.

I love how it does not bog down. I purchased it for the extra power over the pc, yet the safety of using a dual action vs a rotary. A perfect compromise.

Thanks Guys!

It would appear that the backing plate is fitted with Torx headed screws (4 Off) and therefore can't be changed for one of the spindle type backing plates available for the PC, or any other machine.

I haven't been able to find any smaller OE backing plates either which means 4" spot pads can't be used with it either, unfortunately.

Two more questions if I may:

What sort of speed settings are you using for applying product given that the minimum speed and maximum speeds are higher than the more commonly used Porter Cable polisher?

Other than the larger motor and ability not to bog down, as the PC, what other reasons would you give to recommend the DeWalt over the PC?

Thanks,

Alan W
