Hello,
I just bought a DeWalt 849 to polish my car and othe things in the house I was hoping the manual would say the suggested RPM to polish a car. Does anyone here know the answer?

Thank you!!

1000-1200 rpm's but depends on the pad used too ;) - and product - like Vanilla Moose with a Meg's yellow pad @1000

xan021,

Wow, that's a tough one. Much of it depends on the particular product, or product/pad combination you are using. A lot also depends on your level of expertise with the rotary. Generally speaking, a slower speed will keep a beginner out of more trouble. Although, using a rotary at too slow a speed with some products/pad combos can create problems.

Anyhow, I would say that most polishes can be used somewhere between the range of 1000 to 1800 RPM's.

My advise is to get someone with some experience to show you how to use the buffer, and/or practice on some "junk"

low rpm for polish is what works for me .. 1500+for compounds .. they need some rpm& heat to work. also keep a squirt bottle of water so when it starts gumming up just give it a squirt .
