Anyone use it? My parents got it for me for Xmas, just not sure if I want to keep it or ship it back and get the 849. Let me know any opinions. Merry Xmas!
Dewalt 847 Rotary Buffer?

Bret has one. It's a bit heavy but great quality. I learned some rotary technique on it and I think it would be my first choice for a rotary.
Make sure you get someone to show you how to use it. Rotaries are less forgiving (and a bit more dangerous) than the PC.
I don't know how it compares to the Makita. I will say this. Every tool I have purchased from DeWalt has been top quality and I now look specifically for the brand for any tool needs. I got a few months ago a 18V cordless drill and it is terrific.

ive never heard of the 847, but i know that the makita 9227 and dewalt 849 are the two top dogs... maybe you should go to the dewalt site, and compare the two?

Tape all your edges and ridge lines the first time you use it. That will help avoid regrettable damage.

7.0 amp (847) vs. 8.0 amp (849)
Variable Speed Dial on the 849
1,750 speed only on the 847 and 0 - 3,000 on the 849
If I were you, I'd go ahead and swap it out for the 849, it's more user friendly and you can adjust your max speed on the dial thus making it a lot safer for us noobs.
Also consider the Metabo (enter "Metabo" in TOL's search engine). It is 1/2 the weight of a Makita and you don't end up wore out at the end of the day. It doesn't have as much raw power which makes it easier to control, but still packs "rotary whallop" as far as scratches are concerned. When you get tired and worn out is when you will most likely make an expensive boo-boo.
