Hello folks. A couple weeks ago I PC'ed my car for the first time and there are still minor swirl marks on the car. The car is a 2006 pearl blue infinti G35. I used the Sonus orange pad with Meguires Mirror Glaze #9 on speed 5-6 then followed that up with SFX-3 with the blue pad on speed 4. I finished it of with p21S wax. Some questions that came to my mind as a first timer were...

1) After polishing a panel with Meg #9 and the orange pad, do I whip of the stuff left on the panel with a microfiber towel? Or do I just leave it and take it off with the next pad/product? I didnt know, so I just wiped it off with a mf towel.

2) Tape... I used blue painters tape, but after I removed the tape, there were lines of dried product that got smudged against the edge of the tape... it was pretty hard to get off.

I have the Sonus Orange, Greed, Blue pad combo with the porter cable. I also have the following products in my garage. I'm going to be doing my friends car, which is dark green. He has a bunch of swirl marks too, so I was wondering if there was a more effective combo of products that I can use?

products I have in garage...

3m Perfect it II - Foam Polishing Pad Glaze - Dark

3m Perfect it II - Show Car - Liquid Wax

3m rubbing compound

Mothers Clay Bar system

Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax

Mothers Showtime Instant Detail

Meguires Mirror Glaze #9

P21S wax

Sonus SFX-1

Sonus SFX-3

out of all this stuff... which are mostly 80% full.. which ones should I use with which pads at which speeds in which order? Im a noob. Also, how much product to use? The first time I PC'd my car, it seemed like I used 1/4 the bottle of Meguires #9 to do the whole car ... is this reasonable?

Thanks for taking your time to read this.

Did the #9 remove the swirls? I ask because from what I know, #9 is a very mild polish, and I'm curious as to how effective it is.

1/4 of a bottle is 4 oz., and I think that 4 oz. may be a bit too much. After priming the pad, you should only need to add a few drops per panel.

As for the order of pads/polishes, I'm not familiar with the Sonus line-up, so can't help you there :) Hope you can post up some pictures!

Sorry, no pics. Thanks for all the replies though. But there is one question that remained unanswered. When I taped up the cracks and crevices with blue painters tape, after I took the tape off, there was built up residue on the edges of the tape. Some of it is still there today, and I cant seem to wipe it off. Is there a secret to this?

2nd, After each section of polishing, when I'm done, am I supposed to wipe off that section with a mf towel? For example, I do the hood with Meg #9 and I'm ready to move on to the next panel, do I wipe it off with a mf towel or just leave it as is and go over it again with the next pad when its turn comes around?

Thanks for all the help, I truly appreciate it!

Residue on the edge of your tape should take no more than a quick wipe with a QD and MF. Definetly wipe down each panel after each product too. HTH.
