Detailing Vrs Reconditioning

Many of the shops in my area go with the term Auto Reconditioning. In my production shop days, the term Detailing was associated with removing overspray, cleaning up a bit & pinstriping after a paint job.

When I use the term detailing with people my age & older, I get,
"Oh, you do pinstripes"
"Um, I can, but that's not what I'm into."
"Oh."
Then I switch to reconditioning, they know what I'm speaking of.

Now, the local car dealerships advertise in help wanted ads for auto detailers to clean up used cars.

:confused: I'm baffled.

What have I missed, what have I forgotten?
Can any of you folks straighten me out here?

I'm working on getting fliers made up but cannot decide what I should go with. Rob's Auto Recon, Rob's Auto Detailing or Rob's Recon/Detailing. Again ..... :confused:

I'm 49 and have always used detailing as the term for deep down cleaning. Recondidtion is about the same if you ask me, or that could mean to replace, like the seats, door panels, etc.

I'd use detailing seems to be a common trem and should get your point accross.
 
I maybe wrong, but from what I believe....reconditioning and detailing are close in terms.

"Reconditioning" implies returning a vehicle to its original condition, (trim, interior, no dings, rust, etc) as it rolled off the assembly line.

"Detailing" implies maintaining a "like-new" appearance. Protecting the vehicle perhaps after reconditioning.

Seems it can be like these 2 >> :duel (they crack me up)

Going to go with detailing, and will be offering minor body work too like I did with this Camaro RS. The owner almost kept it after he got it back. He wanted to fix it up before selling it. That made me feel pretty good. :) Was my first shot at engine detailing too.

Sounds like a good slogan...."Fall in love with your car....again!" I think I just might use it!

I like these guys....:beat ...would love to use it as a signature or avatar. Sometimes you have to beat things into my head before I remember. :rolleyes:
 
Thanks. Almost bought it myself. Got a little attached to it.

That does sound like a good slogan. Since your in NJ & I'm over here in PA, I don't think we would be stepping on each others toes to use the same slogan. :)

Glad to see I'm not the only one that needs things hammered in at times. :beer
