Detailing virgin..question about clay

I skipped claying because I didn't have time to do it.



So now I have AIO and one layer of SG. I'm planning on putting on another layer of SG. I also want to clay, partially just to try it.



So here's my question. Can I just wash and clay right now? If so, could I then put on a second SG coat or would I need to AIO again before I could put on SG?



Additionally, would AIO block the clay? Would it prevent the clay from getting to what it needs to pull out? If so, how should I remove the AIO?
 
Well I would say that the clay would most likely remove the protection you have on there now. And if it doesn't remove it all...it will remove the scuz and there will be unprotected finish underneath.

If you clay then you should just start over. Clay is the first step you should be taking after washing the car. If you skipped that step and went on to the sealants and toppers then you really should start over with clay and do it right. I wouldn't expect that clay would remove the Klasse completely, but I would still AIO and SG after you do it.
 
Thanks Jngr. Do I need to do something to get rid of the AIO and SG before I clay? I'm imagining that the clay might get stuff that's under the SG.



Am I making any sense?



I think that I have an overly literal idea of layers. I am thinking that all the stuff I should have/could have clayed away is sitting underneath the SG and that if I don't get rid of the SG, the clay will just get stuff that got on there AFTER the SG.



What do you think?
 
I think stuff that can be clayed off (unless they're the low little spots that drive people insane when claying) usually protrude out the top of the sealant layers and will just knocked off when you clay. Layers of wax and sealant are super thin, and not as tall as the grit that you're trying to remove. I've very gently clayed once to get some contamination off my hood and didn't do too much damage to the sealant coats, but if you want to do a good, thorough job at it I would start over again like Jngr said.
