Ok....the PC transfers heat to the pad something awful! I have been using the orange HD pad and have half of the car done with HD Advanced Cut..and the orange pad is coming off the backing!!! I only have a green and a white pad left...should I continue with the white pad or go down to the green?? UGH:frusty:

Which pc is it? Speed 6"

Use the white pad. Get more pads in the future.

Yes I was on speed 6 and it was the porter cable 7424xp...I went to the white pad and got the rest done. What do I use around the lettering?

Yes I am using the spacer between the backing plate and the PC. I have never used MF pads. What is the advantage to them?

Do I clean the whole car with Touch before using the Poxy????

Get more orange pads and be sure to swap between every other panel or so. I usually swap between 2 or 3 pads when compounding/heavy polishing. MF pads tend to run a bit warmer so I'm a little extra careful with those.

Keep the speed at 5 for PC XP and they are fine. 4-5 for Griots pc.

I am a little leery about the pads now if they delaminate that easily. I have seen pads the guarantee to not delaminate.

I am sorry but that's like saying you cannot use 6th gear on your sports car without burning up the tires. The pad should be able to be used on speed setting of 6 without coming apart...don't you think?

Simply having a 6th gear doesn't necessarily mean it is the most efficient one to use. If the paint follows the norm it is on the softer side and speed 5 should be plenty sufficient to do the job. My first thought is that you may be using more pressure than necessary combined with excess product loading up the pad. The pressure you use is probably enough to slow or stop the rotation on speed 5 which is why you are choosing to go to 6. Excess product in the pads will retain the heat rather than allowing it to dissipate. When the product reaches the glue of the backing it is essentially steaming it. The wet heat will damage the pad much faster than a dry heat.

I personally find the vibration at speed 6 to be uncomfortable when used for long periods. I may kick it up from time to time to chase RIDS, but don't use it for whole panels. I will step up the product and/or pad in that case rather than the speed.

I have a non-XP PC and I use speed 5 for most correctional work with orange pads. I also used speed 6 in moderation without any issues. The key is to use multiple pads and/or clean the pad surface frequently. Pads that are completely saturated in polish are heavy, don't orbit as fast, and retain heat. This could be the cause of your delamination - I would give a call to 3D/HD to see if a replacement pad can be issued...I would mark this one up as a fluke.
