Detailing the doorjams

Oh the old days :D I remember seeing that car on the ocho and you said this was the reason you would never live on a dirt road hahahaha

Always did wonder how you got it looking so good, I think I may have to step up how I clean my jambs and start using a little apc in there and rinsing with some water. Are yall putting any kind of wax like a cleaner wax or spray wax on the paint after? And are yall doing the jambs and then the car or car and then jambs?? Sorry I know they are lame questions :D
 
I Hit them with APC or TAW.
Follow with vapor steamer and microfibers.
Finish with AIO.
Also relube the hinges if needed.
I usually do the jams when I'm detailing the interior (have steamer going then).
 
I use an APC (diluted 10:1 or 4:1 depending on the severity of the grime) together with a variety of detailing brushes and paint brushes to agitate the stubborn dirt. I haven't tried using the PW to rinse as I am scared of wetting the interior of the car. I prefer to use a spray bottle with clean water to rinse the area off.

Once cleaned I seal with an AIO product like Meguiars Cleaner Wax or ColorX.

On my own car, I do this kind of clean once every 6 weeks or so. In between as part of my normal weekly wash I use my regular shampoo and wipe the area down with a dedicated jamb wash mitt and dry with a dedicated WW drying towel.
 
I haven't tried this but it sounds like a plan...

If you're going to get out the Foam Gun anyway to pre-soak the vehicle, why not pre-soak the door jambs first? Then do your door jamb washing procedure. I may give that a shot this week!:drool5:
 
When do you guys do the jambs in your process? I usually wait till I'm done with everything - both inside and out and then hit the jambs, cleaning up anything that either hits the inside or the outside.

I usually do the interior first (get the worst over with!)... then door jambs, followed by engine bay and exterior.

I'd say less time than if I hadn't used the pressure washer. Most the time is spent with the mitt and brushes...using the PW reduces the amount of time need by a lot IMO.

I've been doing it this way since '91 when I started working in a high volume shop. All four of the shops I either worked at or managed did it the same way too...maybe it's a MN thing? :biggrin:
