The seal on my sunroof has seen better days, pictures below.

Dont know if it is clear from the photos, but the seal isnt a smooth rubber, but a textured surface.

Any idea on what product and method to use? I was thinking to try woolite mix and then some 303.

Thanks

PointyStick- What's that seal really made of? Some of my vehicles have felt-like seals and once they're damaged they simply stay that way. With that stuff (my Audis have it), the best you can do is clean it and try not to hit it when polishing.

If using a dressing on stuff like this, I would want the minimum residue possible so you don't get streaks/runoff in the rain.

The 1Z Gummi Stick is nice for rubber, but when I compared it to the similar Wurth brand product I preferred the latter. Less residue, for one thing. Dunno if that *old* post of mine comparing the two is still archived or not. Whichever product I'm using, I prefer to apply it with swabs most of the time; the built-in applicator is a PIA to clean when it gets dirty and is often bigger than I want for precise application.

Rant: why do they call those things "sticks"? Makes it sound like a tube of ChapStick whereas it's really more like some liquid shoe polish whose bottle has a dab-on system

I agree. It looks like felt. My Audi has a felt "seal" and I simply clean it with Meg's APC once every couple of washes to keep them looking nice. I didn't dress them. they still look great.

Many people skip/miss out of cleaning these but they need it often.

What kind of car is this? This sunroof weatherstripping looks similar to mine and mine is obsolete. :( I'm looking for a suitable replacement from a newer car.

Awww...doesn't anybody but me use the Wurth version?

I haven't and I haven't used the 1Z version either. Unless you can prove other wise I think the selling point is the applicator. The product is probably your typical vinyl/rubber dressing like 303, Megs #40, or the other 50 different types out there. I use them and a thin foam paint brush to apply to seals and they are as good as new. The main thing is to treat them regularly.

I still have some of the old BMW Gummi- Pfledge that comes in a tooth paste like tube and is a clear jelly type product but has been discontinued. It works well but is a mess to apply properly. It has one of those foam applicators on the end to and it's not nearly as easy as using a foam paint brush and a liquid like Megs #40 or 303.
