Detailing Red

I have an F355 and have heard that Zaino does not work well with Red. Can anyone make any suggestions on what I should be using to get a rich finish. THanks

Man, I don't know who told you that! Check out some of Redcar GUY's pictures of his red SS. I don't see anything wrong with Z on either of his red cars.

Zaino works on any colour.

It is really is a matter of personal opinion on which look you prefer. To come and say Zaino doesn't work on red is a gross overstatement. That tread came from a Ferrari owner. For exotics, wax is a good alternative which provides a different look which he may prefer. As an exotic will not be a daily driver and probably is a garage queen, wax is more than enough protection. P21S/S100 or Pinnacle should do nicely. Make sure to use the GEPC with the S100 and you'll be happy with the results.

Also, there are a great many shades of red so perhaps his red was just a unique hue that made it look very plasticy - is there such a word? :)

The best way is for you to experiment with the following sealant products and see for yourself which you prefer if want the longevity of protection that a sealant provides.

Zaino

BlackFire

Klasse

Platinum

Don't take any single person's word as gold. The list above are all very high quality products and you'll be happy with probably with all of them.

Make sure to search the forum with those products and you'll come across hundreds of posts describing the look and application of each.

Draw your own conclusions. Personal bias is a very strong.

Zaino should look great on red, but some people prefer the shine of a regular wax. Have you tried a carnauba wax? P21S/S100 looks great on red.

Try searching the gallery to see what kind of results people have obtained with their favorite products.

I will definitely try P21s. There are many Zaino defenders on this board. Probably too many. But I like to keep an open mind. I agree that beauty is in the eye beholder. I like to use the feedback of others who have done experimenting. Another post had said that the F355 red did not look good Zaino'ed, I have no reason not to believe him. So I look to you Autopians for help on alternatives for my red Fcar.

Preperation and technique (IMO) are more important than a product. I dont think anyone here is going to talk about any bad products. They should all be first class.

Thx Jngr, I have been showing the SS for about 3 years now. I have tried a ton of waxes, polishes, Glazes..... I was looking for a look that makes people say WOW, that car looks like it is glowing! Also I wanted something that lasted longer than a week.... Zaino was this winner for me, I also Like Klasse on red and S100 on red. As most will tell you, your look is what you put in to it... you can take a red car that has had no care and put all the Zaino,Klasse, S100, ect on it you want and it isn’t going to look its best. The key is in the prep work. My advice to you is to try out as many things as you can on your car, I can show you pics of my cars all day long and it wont mean crap, you need to see it on your car and in real life.... This is just my feelings on this, my .02$ Good luck with the F355:bow

As mentioned, Zaino works on anything. With the right preparation, it'll make every color shine. But it is very reflective and some people don't like how that looks on certain colors. That other F355 owner had been using P21S for a while and switched to Zaino and did not like how it looked, for example. You might like it, though. The only way to find out is to try. But for what I assume is a garage queen that only gets driven on nice days, you may want to try a carnauba, a popular one here being P21S/S100. Both products give great results, just slightly different looking with the same preparation.

Welcome aboard.

It isn't that there is too many Zaino enthusiast here but that most of us here like to work with good products and Zaino is definitely a good product.

The thing about Zaino is that it works very well and many people who try it, love it, and stay with it.

The longer you stay you'll notice there is also a cult following for Klasse. Klasse user even appear to be more head strong than Zaino'ist. Is there anything wrong with that, I don't think so.

A great many of people are trying out BlackFire and the results are very promising.

Platinum is an odd ball with poor initial testing results but the reformulation seems to be better.

Over the past year, there's been a huge shift from Blitz to S100 with Meguiars No. 26 / or Gold Class and Pinnacle still showing strong. Blitz is only out of favour due to trim staining.

Almost everyone here has an open mind are willing to try new products and are constantly searching for new things to try out.

Just look at the tire dressing threads,

In the past year alone, these have been touted heavily

E1 - Concours

Turtle Wax Tire Gel

A new one coming on is the No mess brand.

For compounds,

3M Finesse It II was the product of choice but know the pendulum has move over to Meguiars Dual Action Cleaner Polish.

The Perfect III line is also being looked at.

The fact that soo many promote Zaino is a testament to the quality and ease of use of Zaino. If soo many endorse it, there's probably a reason for it.

Whether Zaino looks good on dark coloured vehicles appears to be a fight for the ages. The only way you'll know for sure is to go ahead and try it out and see what the results are like.

Otherwise, try BlackFire. I haven't heard very many negative things and it does provide an excellent wet look.

It always amazes me when people can't stand a product too many people endorse it's use.

It's a lot like the music industry, once a home town bad with a small cult following breaks through and sells millions, fans get upset and say they sold out to the music industry!

Why should a good product only be appreciated by a select few

Word of mouth is great, but make sure to get informed opinions from a wide group of people. One person's dislike can come from any number of reasons and usually not a result of the product. Poor understand of how to work with the product or not having made the necessary surface preparations to ensure a high quality is often the number one reason.

No product in the world is going to hide a swirled, oxidized, bird bombed paint finish!

The F355 is a beautiful car, and you should definitely research all the possibilities of how to finish it. Just make sure to keep an open mind, don't take any one person's experience as gold (good or bad) and make sure to have fun and enjoy that F355!

Paco, well said.

I am trying to develop a list of products to use. Not easy as a newbie. By the time you try everyone's recommendation you could end up spending 100s of dollars. I think I will try to do my homework.

We are all passionate about our cars, thats why we are here.

And that's one thing that we all have in common.

Hundreds? :p I wish I had only spent that much. LOL Its a $200 dollar trip to the store every time I go shopping for detailing stuff. $70 jar of wax here, $150 polisher there... It adds up in a hurry. Doing research before jumping in is definatly wise thinking on your part. I would expect no less from a Ferrari driver. :D

paco: :xyxthumbs you tell em brother!

nice collection Red. i dont have my own space in the garage.. so i have all my stuff in a big tupperware bin. All my MFs, Mitts, and towels all indivdually wrapped in plastic bags. looks really obsessive to a passerby. but it works well when all my stuff is all in one big tub.
