I just joined this forum to ask for some advice.
I want to polish & wax my cars and prepare them for spring/summer.
Currently I have a 3M perfect-it rubbing compund, a meguiars show car glaze # 7, and mothers pure carnauba wax.
I am not sure if the show car glaze is sufficient as my polish or is there a better product out there?
I am trying to keep my budget to a minimum, and trying to use up whatever I have, before I buy (if needed) better products.
Sorry for the long story, and I appreciate all your inputs.
Thanks

1. Currently I have a 3M perfect-it rubbing compound.
3M Extra Cut Rubbing Compound III- PN (05936)? -*8/10 abrasive level (very strong abrasive be careful)

2. Meguiars show car glaze # 7
A glaze will fill / hide any scratches but will not provide durability (but it will get you by for now)

3.Mothers pure carnauba wax.
A Carnauba wax will provide protection

I am not sure if the show car glaze is sufficient as my polish or is there a better product out there?

As I said a glaze is used to fill/hide scratches not remove them, there are no abrasives in a glaze.

You could get by on what you have for now, and later stock-up with some other products
Staying within the 3M product range

Micro Finishing Compound II PN(39001)7/10 (this would depend on how ‘bad’ the finish is)
Fine Cut II PN(39002)6/10
Machine Polish II PN(39003)5/10

Swirl Mark Remover II (39009) 3/10
This should cover polish, and the wax you already have, you might want to consider polymer sealants to give you longer protection later on

* Is an abrasive level X/10 higher the # the more abrasive

~Hope this helps~

im quite a newbie myself and enjoy readin the stuff in this forum alot. alot of stuff to consume. i dont have any experience with mothers products but people say that paste wax, which is also carnauba wax, is way better than liquid carnauba wax. ive heard great news about s100 paste wax.

look around this forum and there is a long article by jnrbrdman about detailing. he also recommends products in ths articles.

Thanks guys

JonM, I have the 3M fine cut II (39002). Is this enough for fine scratches on my car? I also have some paint stains & water spots.
Also, my show glaze is sufficient? What polish in the 3M range would you suggest to complement the fine cut compound?

tsx2004, thanks for the tip. I'll check that guide out.

Another question
Anyone here use (or have used) Craftsman buffer?
I want to know what pads to use to best apply the 3M fine cut compund(39002) and the Meguiars #7 glaze. I only have those cotton bonnets which came with the buffer.
Also, is the Meguiars # 7 good to apply after the 3M?
Thanks again for any tips.

I believe that most poeple use the porter cable random orbit buffer or a rotary which is more advanced and not as user freindly for a beginner.

Thanks Greg
Maybe when I am much more comfortable with a buffer, I will get the Porter Cable.
So you use pinnacle wax? I have read very good things about that brand.
When I use up my "cheap" wax and polish, I want to "upgrade" to better products. I am not sure though which is user friendly, like pinnacle, menzerna, and also zaino. Did you ever get to try any of those other products?

I have not used pinnacle, menzerna, or zaino. At the moment usually use poorboys products, meguiars products, Hi Temp and top of the line products.
The products you listed are great as well. With the PC buffer it is hard to damage anything. WIth a little reading on here you will be ready to use one. I look forward to seeing some of your work!
