Detailing meet for Ohio / KY Autopia members

Depending on the exact date, I might come. I was just in that area on Saturday for a wedding and wouldn't mind the drive again to meet some other Autopians.

I would like to gauge conflicts with a July 31st date for the meet. I've got a longshot location in the works and will know for sure next weekend. If ANYONE has a suggestion it would be appreciated. Maybe a volunteer fire department, a library parking lot....

If we fail to locate in northern KY or Cincy area then I can locate in Maysville, KY. Does anyone have a problem with coming that extra 60 miles?

sounds great... cincy is only an hour or so and maysville isn't much further...

i notice a couple of other folks from here in lexington, ky. if you guys are interested in getting together and talking detailing let me know. i have a garage full, and i mean full, of detailing supplies.

I think my older son needs to be back for football around the 15-20th of July. I am still not sure if their Mom is going to fly them back or not. Personally, I like the drive and spending time with my kids as we grind out 927 miles in about 14 hours. Once I know more, I'll make a post in this thread.

I really hope it works out though, I'd really like to meet more Autopians!

My very first Autopia post:D I'd be very interested in attending. I'm in Louisville and need help on some of my project cars. I'd love to pick the brains of the detail obsessed!!!

I can't imagine any reason why I couldn't be there as well. Sounds like a good time to me!

Perhaps an afternoon of detailing, tips, advice, techniques, etc., and then everybody go out for dinner or drinks afterwards.

Some friendly advice to those wishing to attend.........

Leave the "un-interested" at home. Nothing worse than hearing "can we go now?" every fifteen minutes after we meet up.:angry

Welcome to Autopia! :welcome

Ok, it's time to start laying the groundwork for what you guys would like to see demonstrated at the meet. Below are a few ideas. Please yay or nay them and feel free to add your own.

Washing - How to do it and do it faster (too basic?)

Clay - How to use it and what it does (too basic?)

Porter Cable - What it is, what to use with it, how to use it

Rotary - What it is, what to use with it, how to use it (if we have a qualified person present to demonstrate it)

Paint Cleaners - How to use / apply it

Polishes - How to use / apply it

Sealants - How to use / apply it

Waxes - Differnt kinds, how to use / apply it

Swirls - What they are, what to use on them and How to get rid of them

Trim - What to use on it, how to apply it

Paint touch-up - How to get the best results

Engine Detail - What to use, how to use it (time might become a factor with this one)

Interior Detail - Stain removal, products, how to

Leather - What to use on it, how to take care of it

Interior Repair - How to remove seats, headliner, trim, how to repair various things

Show off your own ride That's where the real fun is

Supplier info I'm hoping to get a couple of company reps for thing that you might care about to attend. No firm commitments as yet so this might not even take place.

My own thought is to have a black car with swirled, oxidized paint, dirty interior and engine. Seats would be removed so that repair/cleaning could be demonstrated in another area and would make interior detail move along more quickly and allow better veiwing.

Depending on location we might have to provide a detail for the person providing the location. I'm working on one right now and knowing the person the vehicle is near new and in very good condition. No major surgery there.

Any other thoughts like the one directly above to make the meet a success?

Some equipment we could use that I do not have that if you would volunteer to bring would be appreciated...

Porter Cable (if Scottwax comes this would be covered)

Hot water upholstery cleaner

Rotary (depending if we have someone to demonstrate)

Power washer (for engine clean detail that might not happen)

Well, now for something completely different...

My shop is in the NW quadrant of the Indy area. I'll make it available Saturday and/or Sunday 31Jul/01Aug.

I know it is not as convenient for most, but I've everything needed. I'm sure I could get Malco and Automagic reps to participate in some fashion.

Meg's does not seem to have local rep(s).

Maybe even a paint touchup demo...

Lemme know. That weekend is good for me, regardless of location. As I mentioned earlier, I can bring some tools...

Thanks Jim!

I have the Meg's rep and am waiting until we finalize the date!

I forgot a touch up demo! (editted it in the post now). Thanks for reminding me. Everyone is always asking about that.

I can make the weekend of July 24/25 but not the following weekend. I don't know if there is a preference but that would be mine. I also would be more than willing to bring my Dewalt polisher to the event as an alternative to the PC ones.

Keep us misinformed Autopians up to date and we'll be there.

The Beer Man:D :)

Thanks for the welcome Mike!

On the programming for the day - would wetsanding be a viable topic? I'm thinking I'm at that stage for my 300Z Vert and would love to see something on that (if not, that's ok - I'm sure I can pick someones brain that day). Everything you mentioned in your list - I'd be paying attention to. Looking forward to this!!!

That'd be great for me.. just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Muncie! That is, unless I finally find a job and have to work...
