Detailing in Business Parks

Hello All,

I've been thinking of soliciting business parks as part of getting the word out about my business and had a few questions about it.

Who do you talk to to get permission to work on cars in business parks?

Do you have the customer move the car to an area where there aren't any other cars on either side?

Do I need to contact any city officials?

Also, if traveling to outer cities, do I need to ask any city officials if I can work there? Or can I freely travel from city to city working on people's cars?

Thanks in advance.

1. You should talk to the property manager of the business park so you can get permission to service vehicle's of the tenants at the offices in the park.

2. I normally move cars to an area of the parking lot that is pretty vacant. Mainly, because it is respectful to those who are going "in and out", and also it gives me more room to service.

3. As far as contacting city officials, that pretty much depends on where you live at. Also, if you are using pumps, water tanks, etc., I would contact city official offices to find out if you need anything.

4. I've contacted the two other counties I service when I first got started about if I can service there, and they let me know that as long as I am registered with the state, I'm good to go. But, again it all depends on where you live at. I would ask around.

Some cities are enforcing the water containment federal law. Make sure you speak to city officials. The fine is about 2k after a warning. I'm about to do the same thing, but contain the water. I'll be the only one to do this so far and I expect the city to back me by enforcing the law with non-compliers. I should pick up more work than I can handle.

Not sure what city you live in, but I can say it's not NY. City Gov can overlook anything it wants to. It all depends on what person is in office and what he wants to get done. It is all political.

You can go out and comply to every law out there and still get hit with a fine if they want to give you one.

As for picking up work. Think of it from a customers point. Lets say your competition does use the water matt and follow federal rules but they suck at detailing. And lets say you are an awesome detailer and cars come out awesome but you dont follow any rules.

From a customer stand point who are they going to call, not your competion but you. They want your work and your results.

Just my thoughts, not a nasty note or anything like that.

Pretty much what AJ said. Sometimes at business parks, the tennants may not have a problem with you working on the lot but the property owner may, so when they first call you, ask them to check with the property owner to make sure detailing on their lot is allowed.
