Detailing chipped paint on my t tops

I have an older car (91) and the black paint is beginning to chip off of the metal edge of each of the T tops. I've painted my dash-surround pretty successfully with lacquer + enamel clearcoat, and wetsanding and polishing to a mirror shine (thanks to knowledge gained via autopia!). I feel confident about my ability to make the paint shine like a mirror after spraying it on, but as this paint will be exposed to the elements unlike the paint on my dash surround, I don't know what the best product to use would be.

Also, I am interested in eventually repainting my car from white to black, but as a poor college kid and tight on money, I'd like to prep the car and paint the door jambs myself.

I'm really looking for something in a spray-can.. any advice/comments/questions/thoughtless ramblings are both desired and greatly appriciated!

i've done some research and found duplicolor makes spray-can automotive paint. is this ok stuff for doing some small areas like door jambs?
