Rain-X is causing a lot of smearing when I use my blades. What should I use to remove this product?

I am going to get AquaPel instead, and want to make sure Rain-X is completely off before I apply AquaPel.
 
Wash you winshield with lighter fluid. Put the fluid on and let it dwell for a few minutes to break the silicone bond. Then wash it with an all purpose cleaner like 409 or Fantastic. Flush the winshield with plenty of water and finish up with your favorite glass cleaner.



No more Rain-X. :up
 
Fantastic will stain your windows if you don't get it all off. If it does ,some fine steel wool will take the stains off. Maybe they changed the formula ,I am going back 5 years ago when it happened to me.
 
Don't use steel wool on automotive glass it will scratch or haze the glass. The lighter fluid, Neptha will remove the Rain-X.
 
Sorry,I should have mentioned it wasn't the windshield, it was the side and the steel wool did take out the stains, but back 5 years ago, I would not have been experienced enough to see if it damaged the glass.So I withdraw the steel wool advise.
 
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPLY AQUA-PEL OVER RAIN-X!!!!!



Just like attempting to apply a quality sealant over an oily polish, it will not bond to the glass!



If you are going to apply the Aqua-Pel on a vehicles glass that has had Rain-X on it, the Rain-X must be cleaned off first!!

How about getting Klasse AIO and SG off?



I was going to use denatured alcohol, since I've got a bunch of it :)



Can't wait to get my hands on some Aquapel...
 
I would think that any of the paint cleansing products like Liquid Glass Precleaner or PPCL would remove a sealant from glass, since that is exactly what you would use to get it off the paint.

I've tried various things to remove Rain-X, including isopropyl alcohol, Klasse AIO and Autoglym glass polish.

The Klasse AIO stopped the smearing, but the wipers still chattered slightly

The only thing that <strong class='bbc'>completely[/b] stopped the smearing and wiper chatter was lighter fluid, as per Ron K's advise in an earlier thread.

Dang, looks like I gotta go out and get some lighter fluid then.

Any other common products that would take RainX off? And I'm assuming lighter fluid won't damage any sort of coating (if at all) that's on automobile glasses to begin with.



I also want to use Aquapel on some cars that got RainX treatment a year or more ago. How long does RainX stay on there for?

HighNoon is the guy to get it from. He's doing a group buy on it, $7.50 for a tube (one-use application that should cover all your windows), and probably a buck or so shipping if you're not getting the MicroFiber towels as well.

I have always made a paste of bon-ami and water or comet and water or bar keepers friend and water. You should add just enough water to the powder to make it a paste. Then rub it into the windshield and rinse off. No more rain-x. In fact, this a great once a year cleaning method since it does all but remove the pit marks in my soft German glass.



Just make sure you rinse the glop out of all the cracks.

It is a powder cleaner for around the bathroom or kitchen. You might have heard of Comet or Bartenders friend? I think they are all basically the same. They are a powder and then you use a wet sponge and they become course and gritty. Great for tiles and counter tops. Should be able to find one of the three at the local grocery store in the cleaning aisle. They are packaged in a round can like a small package of Pringles.
