Detailing a Vette's engine?

Iâ€â„¢m detailing a 94 Vette soon and remember seeing a thread about engine detailing. In the thread they mentioned about early 90â€â„¢s Vetteâ€â„¢s and the engine problems that developed from cleaning them. Is there any truth to this or just someoneâ€â„¢s bad luck with to much water? I donâ€â„¢t do a lot of engines anymore since Iâ€â„¢ve been doing it my self, but I done quite a few in when I was working at a detail shop and then a car dealership with maybe only one or two problems. Although I have heard many horror stories, and I guess it makes me timid being on my own now.. If anyone wants to share their methods on engine cleaning or tips on the Vette engines, as to what to cover and so on it would be great. This is a customer I know personally and already did his boat and now have the Vette and other cars to do so I really want to do the engine to really make the Vette stand out.

Thanks for any help,

Watch out for the optispark. It's located behind the water pump. Whatever you do, dont use any kind of water pressure on or around the opti. Other than that, I never really use any serious water pressure on my LT1, and I have never had any problems.

Thanks for the quick reply. This my sound stupid but what is the optispark. Is it similar to a coil pak or ignition coil?

Tinfoil off all the electrical parts (alternator, fuseboxes, etc), and then WD-40 all the exposed connectors. I'm religious about doing this and using no more pressure than a hose with my thumb on it, and I've never had a problem (knock on wood).

Doesnt sound stupid. I wouldn't know either if I didnt have one. It's the distributor. If you want to see it, you'll have to get down and strain. Look behind the waterpump...it's yellowish brown. Follow the plug wires and you'll find it.
