I have (just the exterior) when I have them for more than a few days. I can't stand a filthy car and it also gives me a chance to experiment with different combos.

My feelings exactly. I can't stand to drive a dirty car so if I'm gonna have a loaner or rental for more than a day or two, I wash it. I don't think I've ever driven a rental that had even reasonably clean windows, for example. If you're gonna wash windows, why not wash the whole car?

Right now there's a Saab 9-3 cabrio out there with new Z5, old Z5, and Duragloss on the hood and trunk. I don't get guinea pigs too often so I gotta do my comparos when and where I can.

I'd agree with you on this point... some people hate it. I tried it on my grandparents and they didn't like it, cause when they use the wipers it leaves streaks of beaded water... I told them they need new wipers and didn't need to use them as much with the RainX... anyway

With a rental car... it's not someone else's car, it's the companies car, that you use as your own. So, if it's a safety item for you, I say do it.

As for the rest... you obviously want to do it, go for it :) It's vacation, it's all about what makes you feel good and helps you relax. Hope you get the 6 ;)

Well, I got the 626 instead of the 6 (guess the 6 is still pretty new to the fleet market) :(. But, it was better than the Corolla they threatened me with. I also had a chance to get a Mustang, but of course it is only a V6 auto, so no thanks (besides I will be having some rear-seat passengers.).

Now the cool part--it is white, with lousy marks on the rear bumper. The paint is in good shape, but I have never felt such dry paint in my life! Probably NEVER waxed and left out in the harsh valley sun over the last 23K miles.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some before-after picts, at least of that rear bumper.

I'm with ya on that. I did the whole front windshield of a Budget box truck once, before impending rain on a 1200 mile trip. I actually pulled into a freeway rest stop and dug my RainX out of the trunk of my car (which was in tow).

People looked at me like I was nuts, "cleaning" the winshield of such a big truck! But there was no way I was gonna risk all my earthly possessions on poor visibility with junky wipers!

When I bought my acura TL-S they had to have it for week to do some work (bad seat, stereo and headlight) they gave me a CL-S that was NASTY - (used lot) I could not stand it - when I got it home I hit the interior (which looked like someone covered it in pancake batter..) with Meg's 39, cleaned the leather with Platinum Leather Cleaner, used my Oreck on the carpets, then PB's Natural look and Platinum leather conditioner - then I hit the exterior - (it was white) 3M Finesse It II, 3M IHG, AIO then UPP - did the usual wheels and tires clean and dressed... took me a few hours the Saturday I got it and I didn't do anything else to it until I gave it back....when did the service manager could not believe it - when they pulled my car around, my loaner looked better than my brand new TL-S..boy was I P*ssed...(they wash cars when you bring them in and they do a horrible job!! Since that time I have insisted they not..ever!)..

I've done it many times. If I am going to detail the rental car, I ususally take a foam applicator, a wash mitt, a bottle of Mother's cleaner wax, a bottle of glass cleaner, and some MF towels. The Rain-X is a good idea too. I don't usually dress the interior vinly/leather or the tires; it is still a rental...

If you go to a spray bay, you can use their wheel cleaner and brush for the wheels and tires. If you go with a one-step cleaner wax, you can generally have the car detailed in 30 or 40 minutes.

You guys are all Sick, Very, Very Sick! J/K, but seriously after paying what most rental companies charge for usage of there cars there is no way I am spending my time detailing there car. To me time is money! Maybe if I had i for a weeke or two. Ahhhh who am I kidding after detailing my Caddy and the wifes Grand Cherokee ( I am super anal with these 2) I usually do not wash the station car I have. The paint is looking pretty nasty after the harsh winter this year. Its so dry and oxidized. I do plan on playing after I finish the Jeep though. Prob next weekend! Yeah I let it get that bad as an experiment. Yeah that's it!

As a group we love clean cars regardless who owns them . If we are using some one elses car or renting a car we want it clean no demand that it be clean . I was hired at my latest part time job because my car was clean. The boss told me when he hires someone he can tell what kind of person they are by how they keep their cars.

Hmmm I'm not so sure about that! My car, which I only use on weekends and maybe just once during the week, is often a lot cleaner then my apartment which I live in. What does that say about me?

While on vacation in Texas last month I was thinking about using the new PC and polishes I bought on my rental Grand Am. But I couldn't do it as I bought all that stuff to take back with me to the UK so didn't want to waste it. Instead I washed and NXT'd my buddy's Integra, our other friend pulled into the drive and thought I was totally nuts to be cleaning a car that didn't belong to me.

I had this for a week while my tranny was replaced:

I can't stand a smelly (cigarette) interior, dirty windows, and junky wipers. After a little 303, glass cleaner, and RainX I was happy. If it wasn't going to rain I would of drove it through a car wash.

I'm going to LA for a week in July. I will take a MF or 2, some RainX if there is rain in the forecast. Will try to get a rag top for the week.
