Detailed My Fridge

Ok, I think after 65 years of service without a hick-up she needed a detail ! although she assigend as a garage fridge now, I finally realized how old she was and never gave it a second thought since she always worked without any problems ...now here is where I think the saying "They Don't Make Them Like They Used To" comes from.



She is a 1940 Frigidare fridge made by General Motors, yes the GM.



It was a challenge to polish the white porcelain enamel, but I manage to eliminate some of the swirls swirls and made her shine again.



Hitted her with 3M PIII RC with a PC and then #83 and finally topped her up with Meg's Cleaner Wax A12.



Think she be good for another 65 years ! :birthday:

Now you're making me feel remiss for not shining up my '50 GE basement queen, but the door seal is dried and cracked...do you think Pb's TR can fix it?

I bet Vanilla Moose or 303 Aerospace would add a little bit of replenishment
 
Setec - 1Z Gummipflege can restore door seals very well. They go from stiff and dull to soft and black. :up

Truth be told....the gasket (which is hollow) is really hard as a rock and is broken (as in shattered) in one spot. Now my '63 is a different story, different gasket material....



Amazingly, that '50 just runs and runs, never a problem. It's not frost free, and I even unplugged it for a couple of years cuz with the ratty door seal, it was just icing up too much, but it started right back up and still runs fine. I had to put a hard start kit in the '63 last year to save it...and the door shelf (which is really the whole inner door molding) is cracking (might have to take it out and fiberglass it from the inside). I kind of doubt that any current GE fridges will be running 42 and 55 years after they were built.

My Mom's old refridgerator was a 1950 Sears Coldspot. She sold it to a guy who put it in his hunting camp in Vermont. The fridge is still operational after 55 years!



You're right, Ed Lancer...they don't build them like that anymore!
 
I'd like to introduce your "Fridge" (betcha most you didn't know where that word came from did ya?) to my "Fridge" who is a 1945 Frigidaire deep freeze. Thing looks like a refrigerator laying on it's side. It has the same emblem yours does.



Maybe they can make little Bar "Fridges" together?
