Detailed and lowered the GT this week!

Yea I really love the setup, it's looks a lot cleaner dropped. No mods yet besides a flowmaster catback, it's only 3 months old with less than 2K on it so I am going to make sure the engine's a winner before I start doing too much that would void the warrenty. In the works are the standards though........tri-ax, gears ( probably 4.10's ), densecharger, and probably going with a wet 100 shot. As much as I would love a s/c I just don't see it in the budget.

Be very careful with a wet shot system and that plastic intake. They have a nasty habit of blowing up.

I guess I should have added that to the list. The first time I popped the hood I couldn't believe I had a plastic intake.

Here's what I did

1. dawn wash

2. clay

3.wash again

4 buffed car with FI-II / yellow pad

5.again with SMR / white pad

6.P21S / white pad

7. Z5 X3

8.Z2 X2

Cool looking car, Stl_GT. Just one question: Applying a carnauba under Zaino isn't something I would try -- major as a Zaino topper, but never under Zaino. What made you decide on this approach?

Carnuba? I guess you are talking about the P21S? That is just a paint cleaner to remove the residue left from the SMR. Am I missing something here?

Ahhhhh..... not P21S -- I'm guessing you used P21's Shine-Enhancing Cleanser (SEC).

But, still, I would have used something to remove those residues -- either Dawn wash, or a 50/50 alchohol/water mix -- before applying the Zaino.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm 2nd-guessing. I just didn't see this thread til this afternoon. :(

Well P21S makes the carnuaba wax and the GEPC which is what I suppose you used. Unless I'm mistaken doesnt it have fillers that can cause bonding issues with the Z? I used it under Poorboys on mine without any problems, but the Poorboys is a lot more forgiving.

Our resident guru BradB went through the process he thought would work best on the car when I went over to his place......so I am placing any and all blame squarly on his shoulders :) LOL, I QD the car completely after using SEC. It seemed to go on fine, I guess the test will be the durability. However, the car never sees rain and only gets driven maybe 3 or 4 times a week around town......so it's not going to be a big deal, hopefully.

Looks great! How do you like the Eibachs?

I am about to install the Bullitt suspension package on my '01 GT.

rjstaaf--just thought I'd throw my opinion in about the Eibach's--I have the pro-kit, which rides almost like stock but will not "slam" your car--I didn't want that anyway. They make the car look like it should have from the factory. That Bullitt package will probably drop you about 1", I think you'd be happy with the pro-kit and a set of Tokico's but any direction downward on 4x4 Mustangs is good!!:D

And about the whole BMW thing, I agree they are better corner carvers and the M3 might be faster than a pre '03 Cobra, but to me there is nothing like the sound of a V8 with true duals on acceleration...:bow

I never understood the lowering of cars, but then again, i live in michigan where if you did lower your car, chances are, youd mess your front end up because of all the debris and construction that we have. It be nice if we didn't have all of that to deal with, then maybe i could own a sports car and lower it without trouble. Oh well, maybe when im older and live out near the country or something. Btw, nice mustang, 4.6s rule!!!!

Have a look at a stock mustang sometime, and notice that enormous gap between the top of the tire and bottom of the fender well. It's ridiculous--most people who go with the Eibach Pro-Kit (like myself), don't want the car slammed, just down where it should be, so it can handle more like a sports car. I've noticed the car is alot tighter--minimal squat, dive and roll, without being too harsh. The car is also more "responsive" to the road.

If I were to put the Sportlines on--it would be a different story (specific rate spring, 2" drop) I'd be leaving marks with my cat covers at every dip and speedbump.

Also look at a BMW M3 or M5, there's about .5" of room from fender to top of tire--the way it should be.

Yea I didn't care too much for the 4X4 look. I did go with the pro kit and tokico shocks/struts and love them. The car isn't slammed by any means, even if it was it wouldn't look bad. Thanks for the compliment though, it's not my daily driver so that really helps to keep the chips down even though I seem to acquire one every month. Oh well !

I have them too, the non-adjustables, my car is purely for street. I'll never forget the first time the car came off the jack stands on its new stance with my new ROH wheels, it was like night and day. One of the best and first mods that should be done to ANY mustang.
