Detailed a 10yr old factory paint with no clear...

It was difficult and my pads were bloody red, but here goes...

Your pictures always turn out awsome. You use a rotary correct? I'm suprised, with all the skilled people on this forum, that more people do not use them.
 
WOW! Nice job. Quick question.... what are you going to do with all the pads and towels that you used on this car that are all red? Would it be OK to use them after a wash on a non clear coated car or would the red paint rub off?

Justin: yes I do use a rotary... it's not that difficult to learn once you've spent enough hours on it... I guess most people don't use a rotary coz for maintenance purposes, it may be an overkill to own one... I don't know... if I'm not doing other people's cars, I most probably would stick to an orbital as well... and rent a rotary when I need to do restoration detailing...



Estoril: Paint is paint, when using a rotary on a clearcoated paint, most probably the pads are covered with clear paint as well, I clean them just the same way, spur and brush, soap, spin dry... If it's really stubborn (like on my wool pad), I dipped it in a little denatured alcohol, washed it several times and ran the pad (with no product) on our refridgerator wall/door just to make sure that the pad stilll works...
 
I think my Honda needs a rotary, I wonder what the limitations are of the machine. From a distance, the car looks spectacular with Platinum UPP on it. Up close, ewww. I was able to remove almost all the swirls, but the paint has major defects like pitting and scratches that need repair. Many of these cannot be polished out.
 
Why not rent a rotary? We (in Manila) don't have the luxury of tool rentals... Maybe you can rent one nearby and work on your ride...

Hehe, I just got lucky... I always forget to bring my tripod so the shots had to be taken with the camera sitting on the ground... It was around 5-6pm and I needed to take long exposure shots... that's the only way for it to come out clear... I was just lucky that the pics came out well... :p :cool:
