This detail was an Exterior only completed Friday. Sorry about the “no before pics,â€ the car was definitely a challenge I did not expect. In the sun the swirls were light and in the garage under the halogens they were very light. I thought… weird. After the wash I go to clay the car and had a lot of trouble with the clay “catchingâ€ on the paint. Owner said the bumper was re-sprayed a couple of years ago and has never been polished since. After the claying (which was a pain), I proceeded with 106FF and a polishing pad. Swirls cleared up a bit but not all of them. I did notice the paint cleared up a lot and the unpolished parts were oddly hazed. Fast forward, I have determined that when the car was at the paint shop, it must have sat around and collected a lot of overspray, or they did very poor prep work and didn’t cover the rest of the car while repainting. Any-who... no before pics since the swirls weren’t showing up on camera very well and I was pressed for time.

Final Process:

Wash Z7 with foam gun

Megs Clay with Fk425 as lube.

Optimum OC with orange LC pad @ 1500 rpms (OC has more lubrication then IP and allowed me to cut through and remove the overspray with longer working times.)

Menz 106FF with white polish pad @1500rpms then to 1200rpms

Fk425 wipe down for the dust

LSP = Zaino Z5 PRO zfx’ed (I haven’t used Zaino in 6 months lol) owners request.

Final Wipedown with Z8

Wheels were cleaned with Meg’s Wheel Brightener 1:1 with appropriate brushes and mitt.

Exhaust tips polished by hand with Flitz

Tire dressed with Zaino Tire shine

Windows cleaned with Spray Away

Exterior trim treated with Zaino tire shine as well.

Total time: About 9-10 hours

I did manage to get two sunshots when the owner moved the car outside for me so I could check my work under the sun. Sun was pretty much down by the time I finished.

Pictures!

Sun shot of the hood (no lsp at this point) and no those arent paint holograms, the camera had some sun flare :(

Sunshot of the fender (no lsp). The white dots are polishing dust not rock chips

Questions or comments as always are welcomed! :) :)

Definitely wet paint. Car looks flawless man great job. :2thumbs:

I did a black one same year and style about a year back, all I can remember is the softness of that paint. Very easy to mar.

how is it that you guys can finish with a rotary and not get holograms? it must be that 106FF is better then OP huh? i gotta switch lol

nice job man car looks amazing, a porsche is always a porsche no matter how old and they will always look amazing

I think it involves skill....which I don't have but I am planning on getting some 106FF soon.

Takes experience and time. I have been using the rotary exclusively for more then two years now. My PC is BARELY gets used. Once you have got the rotary techniques down, the finish is mind blowing. :)

Great job!

I just finished up the same car today, well almost....993 C4S. Same exact color!

Owners winter car...going into storage and being replaced by two others for summer!

i did my car today and some spots have grams others dont lol

Someone told me that holograms are caused by to much polish more then just bad technique, im getting the hang of it. Never really used a PC but i used a rotary 3 yrs ago and havent used one since so gotta get the hang of it again

Could go either way... not enough polish will cause dry pad buffing. Too polish polish and not enough polish time will leave the polish not fully broken down. Depending on the finish the pad makes a difference. Some paints I can finish down with a polishing pad just fine. Very soft paints requires a finishing pad to finish down fine. Definetly a learning curve with the rotary but well worth it.

mm i got honda paint so maybe i should finish with blue instead of gray haha

You do great work man thats def a porsche id be happy with

That's a great color and excellent work bringing out it's best.

I love the last pic.

All the ones I work on are either Black or Guard's Red...nice to see

something different.

The problem with 911's is that the front end takes so much

abuse because of the low angle of the hood that you end up

working with a lot of repaints....makes it tough to gauge and

work the paint on the car as a whole when the paint isn't

consistent all the way around.

Anyway , excellent work....can't say enough.

Awesome job!

I love that color, I have a customer with a 993 in that color, it is absolutely beautiful in the sun, as your flake shots show.
