Detailed: 2006 Suburu WRX Blackswirlzilla

So the guy was limited on time & money, so I did what I can givin the amount of time I had with the car, to make it as presentable as I could. It pulled up to my driveway looking pretty heavily neglected. The dirt and grime on the paint made it appear as though there were no swirls at all... or so I thought. I even gave the whole car a spray of ONR, hosed off, and another layer of ONR before I went ahead with the 2 bucket wash



I didn't take too many in the process pictures since I had a limited time to work on the car, but I took a few to spot the flaws in the paint.

The camera really does no justice, it's an very old 4.2mega pixel AA battery powered Panasonic camera.



Exterior:

ONR + Rinse

2oz ONR, some Meguiers Gold Class shampoo, Euro-W Wash bucket w/ Grit guard, a rinse bucket, wheel brush, MF towels, Genuine Sheepskin mitt, and about 6gal of water

Dry with WW Towel & Shag double density MF towel

Fine grade clay w/ ONR lube

Porter Cable UDM

Mixture of Optimum Polish, O. Compound & Four Star Medium Cut Compound ... 5 speed on yellow

Optimum Polish ... 4 speed on Orange

Optimum Poli-seal ... 4 speed on White

Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection on Red ... 3 speed on Red

ONR (Great against brake dust!!) & One of my many waxes on the wheels

Surf City tire gel (forgot name exactly)





Interior;

Genuine Honda OEM interior vinyl/leather cleaner

Permaplate Carpet/Upholstery cleaner

Einzett (sp?) Leather conditioner

Here's the side door panel before and after it was all said and done. There were little blue-ish pearls in the paint that I didn't even know existed in the paint until it was all done!

Time spent was 4.5-5 hours. With only about 30min on the interior since it didn't need much work. Client was mostly concerened with doing well with exterior. Overall he was pleasantly happy with the results considering how much time I spent, and how little he had to pay. I undercharged him by ALOT. Never again will I quote on a black car without seeing it in person!!!



I didn't get any more after pictures since he was here to pick up the car as I was finishing up on the interior, and it was already dark out anyways.
 
No time wasted! I was pretty damn hungry & tired when I finished though.



Detailing is therapeutic :D ; that 5 hours flew by QUICK!

It's more of just a hobby/weekend thing though, great for some extra cash when ya need it ;)
 
I'm in the same boat, my friend, except I take much longer. That would have taken me about 8 hours using a PC.
 
I won't lie, it wasn't a fully "complete" detail. It would have taken me a good 7-8 if I got down to every last detail too, but I was limited on time and had to make it as presentable as can be. Given that this only costed him 1XX, and giving me a limit on time, I did what I can to please the client. Under the door jams is one of the few minor thing that I didn't have time to get around to. But those can almost go unnoticed as opposed to perfecting the larger panels
 
are subie owners only worried about their cars going fast rather than looking good too? Damn those are both TERRIBLE.
 
You sprayed with ONR then Hosed off? Doesnt that defeat the ONR purpose? Just confused and curious. The 2 after pics look good, do you have anymore?

There was so much dirt and grime buildup near the wheels, I wanted to play it safer to loosen up all that dirt before I high pressure hosed it off.



I wish I did take more after pix, but he was already here to pick it up when I was finishing up, and it was already 8pm outside and dark :(

Yes. We only care about how fast we go! Im sure my blue Subie is a wreck under lights as well.

nope..subaru uses crappy paint that swirls instantly and chips like a mother!

Wow... that is horrible. For that much, I'd pay you to do my car. Haha, great job on the car with the time given. I don't think I'd even rush myself to do that in 4 -5 hours.

I am said to have to agree with this statement.



My hood and front bumper are a lost cause due to the number of rock chips I have. My impreza just turned 9 years old.



I joined the forums just over a year ago and learned quickly everything I did to wash the car for 5 years was well... totally wrong.



I have since been doing my best to read and learn, then apply these learnings on my two Subaru's.



Unfortunately I didn't really spend too much time the past year working on learning to polish since anytime I looked at the paint it caused swirls. Thus I spent it working on my washing technique. I am not convinced I am there yet with washing, but I am a lot better (still room to learn and improve). I am really learning quickly that I hate my paint...



Nice job on the subaru. :)

Got my subie last year this time, and found this site about 6 months ago. Working on my technique, but my paint looks nothing like that black 06!
 
Big improvement, looks swirl free. :)



Love that soft Subie paint. You can cut out defects fast and the paint isn't at all finicky like black G35s or BMW 335s.
