He was fairly young and hadn't been pro detailing for long when he started here (I don't think he had been detailing at all for much longer than he had been a pro). Every product was a "must-have" because he was getting those products for free in exchange for a review...and when you get a "gift" from someone, you always say you like it! He was also very proud of how much money he was getting paid for his details...because he made sure to tell us in every thread how much that was!



In this context, getting free product without disclosing and giving a glowing review is shilling, and none of the pros here boast and rub everybody's noses in how much they (claim to?) get paid. I'll give Justin the benefit of the doubt that he was young and impetuous...OTOH, if not, he'll be right at home at MOL which is suck-up central...because if you don't, Mike Phillips slaps your knuckles!



Which means it's time to say thank you to David B. again for this great site where the management weeds out the shills and allows us to express ourselves honestly (as long as we are civil).

What happened to him since the foam guns, acting as a product schill, and copying Pauls website text (incidentally, he posted on Detailing World (I think) that Paul said it was ok to do, yeah right.)



Maybe Justin was just another fictional character like Antonio Waxer on Detail City?







Funny thing about this 2006 post is that the car pictured was owned by a real estate agent.

I just joined MOL and have noticed that MP does seem like he runs the show over there. Nothing against him or anyone else. Seems he like's to take the time and show or try and teach the "proper" way things should be and of course he is going to push Meguiars as he works for them.



I enjoy both sites, seems to me this site is geared more towards the professional or people that really know what they are doing and MOL is for pro's too but to me, and this is just my opinion only, it seems like it is catered to more of the hobbyist or beginner.



I always go to both sites each time I am online, and the autogeek forum as well, just trying to read up and learn everything I can about detailing and I have learned much from both. Me being a beginner, I feel I have learned more of the proper steps to take from MOL but value the opinions of the more experienced people on both sites for the valuable information, and I hope to continue to grow and learn in the world of auto detailing.



Before i knew anything about detailing and how enjoyable it is, I used mothers or megs cleaner wax and that was it. Now I see there is so much more to it than just washing, drying and waxing. I am finding out that on a daily driver like my corolla, the best option for me is to use the most durable products I can and try and maintain it to the best of my abilities

Mike is a great guy and a great teacher who's probably done more than any single person on the internet (and in person) to teach and promote detailing. But MOL is a manufacturer-sponsored site, and therefore is controlled media. I was away from there for a while, and when I came back was surprised that they were letting people talk about other products (in a way other than "I tried XYZ product and boy did it suck I'm glad I'm back using Meguiar's!") and there was some discussion about beading or sheeting or layering and I had the nerve to suggest that perhaps the new owner (3M) might use some of their corporate muscle to do some research and settle the question once and for all, and I got my head handed to me and told I should pay for the research myself if I was so interested (actually, there was a subtle accusation that I had suggested this just to be a trouble maker)...whatever...I don't miss MOL...I'd rather read about the new Meg's products here. And no, I'm not banned there (although I might be after this!)
 
I have noticed that as well. Over at bobistheoilguy.com, I linked to a amsoil dealer that was not one of the sponsors on the site, and got a pm from the owner of the site asking why I did not link to one of the amsoil sponsors from the site. So I got my pp handed to me too.



I wasnt trying to cause any drama, just a guy asked about a motorcycle chain lube and I told him about Amsoil HDMP (heavy duty metal polish) and linked it to the only website I had and it was not one of the sponsors web site.



Anyway, I have learned a lot from the site and have purchased some megs stuff (M80, old scratch x from autogeek bogo, #82, swirl x, ultimate compund, but I also have xmt swirl removers, xmt 180 wax (well not anymore since I dropped it on the ground saturday morning after using it twice) megs #26,along with 4 tins of collinite 476 and 2 fuzion, wolfgang and poorboys sealants) and value the inputs from knowledgable people such as yourself, accumulator, scott wax and all the others that know what they are doing and give input and guidance to those that need it



I have no intention of turning pro or opening a business, I dont have the skillset and knowledge to run a business and all the legal aspects that go along with it, but I do enjoy it as a hobby and like trying to maintain my vehicles the best I can and make them always look good, on the daily driver I just want to keep it looking as decent as I can

Yeah, the free products in exchange for those reviews was something I forgot about.



You're also completely right about MOL. MP's one-way street attitude is a definite turn-off. It seems that if you don't agree with what MP preaches, you are in the wrong. And don't get him started on fillers....LOL!
